Guest Croccy22 Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Ok guyz just a few sample screenshots to prove that I am actually doing some work. Will hopefully release a playable demo soon so you can see what the game play is like. Have got quite a big decision to make as to whether to release it as freeware or try and go commercial. What do you guys think?? Matt.Screen3.jpgScreen2.jpgScreen1.jpg
Guest siu99spj Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Looks great  (Sorry just LOVE this smiley)              But seriously, it does look cool 8) . What would make me fish in my pocket and donate whatever money you asked would have to be the inclusion of a level editor  . Doesn't have to be Smartphone based (for me ;) ) but it would be nice. Also, any news on if there are any power-ups? 8)
Guest midnight Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 hehe, i like that, donations accepted, everyone is all too happy to say they agree to it, but its VERY rare anyone actually does  and hmmm, if i had the choice of free or buy then i'd say free every time, and so would everyone else i'm afraid. But think twice people..... If its released for free, do you think we would spend a lot of time on games to make them as good as possible??? doubtfull If we where to get money for the creation of games, would we make the game a lot better??? of course we would.
Guest Gorskar Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Looks good! Obviously I like to see as much freeware as I can get, but am willing to donate towards a good one  If you do go the commercial route then I think you should probably get it certified, as you can't distribute non-certifed products on handango for example, and you can't have people buying your stuff and then complaining it wont run cause of the certification issues. You also then have an obligation to provide support. Of course the plus side is you will make money. Anyway, my vote is towards donations, but obviously the decision is up to you!
Guest Gorskar Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 True that most people probably won't donate though. So you wont be able to retire on donations alone (doubt you'll be able to retire even on if you charge for it though) I guess it really depends how you see this game being used - widely by nearly everyone with an unlocked phone, or by a smaller but paying audience. You could always go the shareware route, like task manager, which has a nag screen every 5 startups that disappears upon entering the reg code that you get upon paying your registration fee. This should make you a bit more money, but still keep everyone happy.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Here's an idea... How about you licence it exclusively to MoDaCo? We arrange some sort of fee, and in return you provide it and all future versions exclusively for download at MoDaCo (and brand it appropriately). MoDaCo of course will offer it for free to all members! :-D Interested? P
Guest Gorskar Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Heh, way to up the membercount! Thats a dirty trick to catch up with that american site
Guest midnight Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 as for a smaller audience, thats doubtfull, if it is a full commercial game it will be certified dont worry about that. As you all no-doubt know, commercial games on the smartphone that are certified have a MUCH wider audience than non-commercial non-certified games (even worse... commercial non-certified games)
Guest midnight Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 in fact, need the poll changing  Freeware (non-certified) Commercial (Certified) Donation (non-certified)
Guest Croccy22 Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Paul, If I decide not to go the fully commerical route then it may well be a good idea. If I was to release it myself then I would advertise it through your site anyway so may as well let you deal with the whole thing. The first thing I need to do is finish it along with the powerups and see what sort of quality it is. Aim productions have also shown an interest in the concept so at the moment I just have no idea which route I will take. I've got next week off anyway so hopefully if the weather is crap then this will get finished at long last. (Damn that sunshine and all of the hot babes!!, Just can't resist goin' cruisin' in my car!) Matt
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Cool... If you have any beta versions you could hook me up with then that'd be useful too. P
Guest Gorskar Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Ok, possibly not smaller, its hard to say really. I think Mboden said that over 1000 people downloaded Doom from his server in a fairly short time (a month or something?? ) No doubt the total number of copies has increased since then, and + there are other places hosting it also. To compare according to handango the most popular smartphone game currently (Motocross stunt racer) has sold 1083 copies since its release (I'm not sure whether this includes the copies sold direct from Digital Dreams site. I bought my copy there, as I figured that more of the money would probably go direct to the programmer, as handango take a fair chunk in commission.) And the most downloaded game ever there is Tennis Addict, with a whopping 8754 downloads to date, although I'm not sure if this figure includes the trial version. Seeing as its ranked 7th then it may well do, although the game has been available as long as the SPV. It would be impressive if 1/5 of all SPV users had paid for this, especially as it is not the cheapest game. Hard to say what to expect really. Obviously my opinion is not entirely impartial, I will freely admit.
Guest Chic0 Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 Midnight, from the screenshots it's looks really good. Definately worth paying for I reckon just to watch my workmates turn green with envy! ;) Cant wait to have it on my phone! :(
