Guest hecatae Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 Windows Phone 8 has launched, the SDK is available and Windows Phone 8 devices are about to be released — Microsoft think it’s time to get coding. As an added incentive, for the next 8 days individual developers can register for a Dev Center account for just $8 (a 92% saving). Wow, $8 USD for a Dev Center account, what do I need to know? You need a valid credit card, a PayPal account, or a promo code. The annual subscription is $99 USD. It’s free if you’re a DreamSpark student. So the next year will be full price, I can live with that, I should be a fully fledged Windows Phone 8 developer by then. Please note this is a very limited time offer. You’ll be charged $99 USD or equivalent in your local currency, and Dev Center will refund the difference in the next 30 to 45 days. I will be charged full price and not refunded for up to 45 days? Ouch!. I appreciate the gesture Microsoft, I really do, but as an individual developer I can't afford the upfront payment. If anyone else is thinking of joining Dev Center you only have 8 days to do so and it IS an amazing saving compared to the usual annual subscription, but it just seems a messy way to offer a discount. Guest hoeferh Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 Notice that it's still a subscription -- so next year they'll automatically charge you the full 99$.
