Whats the best way to see how much space you have left on your SD card / phone?

It it all safe to delete anything in the 'windows' folder? ( I guess not! ) ...

Cheers! :D ( owner for about 2 1/2 hrs now ) :( <--- first impressions, kicks ass, no probs at all...

Oh...anyway to make it vibrate and ring at the same time? ( dont think there is...)

Go to settings --> about

It tells you how much you have left in phone memory and card!

Using settings/about doesn't tell you the memory available on the card only in the phone itself.

To check the card, install the IA Explorer that came on the SD, then you can use it to check by selecting the card, going to the menu, selecting file, then properties.

This then raises the question of why it shows my card as being formatted as 6.5Mb rather than 8Mb :?

My Settings shows -

Available Storage: 5.97 MB

Total Storage: 7.50 MB

Available Memory: 1.36 MB

Total Memory: 11.82 MB

I thought the STORAGE was the card?

There's an overhead on storage cards for the file system. Unlike PC hard drives, removable media tend to quote maximum sizes. To back this theory up, I have a 512mb card which reports 487mb available after formatting, which is in the same proportion to your 6.5/8mb.

No..

.. and yes :D

No, the Windows folder is strictly for system stuff, so deleting bits here (assuming it even lets you delete them) will just make your phone break

..but the /windows/ folder is re created from ROM every time you power up the phone, so if you do delete something, just rebooting the phone will make it come back

So don't think you can save space for more photos/ringtones/games by deleting stuff from your windows folder - it just doesn't work that way!!

/storage/ is the phone's internal flash - there's about 32mb on a C500 (this is called /ipsm/ on older versions of windows mobile)

/storage card/ is your flash card (this is sometimes called other things on other phones)

You could use a card reader and do it from your PC or get Binarys' excellent Task manager which will do it.
