Where to by SPV if I am in the US?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am interested in buying SPV, but I am in the US. Where should I be buying from and how much should I be paying for it. For most vendors, I see them selling at near P800 price. Should I be paying that much? How much are you guys in Europe paying for it?

Should I wait for SPVx? Where can I read feature comparison, and how much will they be selling that one at?

Thanks.

Atip,

Try eBay. You could wait for SPVx but it will be more expensive. Do you know anyone in UK? SPV is retailing at £69.99 (~£$105) with a contract at the moment...

I'm in the US and I considered picking one up. The most reliable (and one of the best prices I've seen to be honest) is directly from Orange. In fact, some jerk on Ebay is selling this link for 5 bucks!

https://www.ora.co.uk/orangeSPV/

I'm holding off buying one because AT&T and Cingular are rolling out 850 GSM and since they are sharing coverage with T-Mobile, I wouldn't be surprised if T-Mobile didn't start selling Dual-band GSM phones that cover 850 and 1900. This is reason enough for a quad-band to hit after this current line-up needs updating.

If you want a good tri-band (that doesn't include the "other" US band), I'd buy direct from Orange unless you got a real sweet deal on a used one. Also, don't forget that the SPVx is coming out soon as well as the faster models with built-in camera.

Can you buy direct from Orange if you from the US? How would I go about contacting them? Do I need to get service plan as well? The prices they are selling for on Ebay and at some websites are around $700. It's rediculous considering what people are paying for them in Europe.

take a look at the link in my previous post. It will answer ALL of your questions.

It's a SIM-FREE, CONTRACT FREE, APP UNLOCKED phone for development purposes. No contracts. No mess. No fuss.

They will ship it anywhere you want. The total cost, with shipping is like 450 bucks US. I think it's a good deal if you ask me. Micro$oft is asking WAY more than that for their development phone which isn't as good.

After VAT and shipping it comes to $636.73 US, I paid $767.00 US and had it in three days. bought it from here:

http://www.gsmphonesource.com/index.html

they are located in Las Vegas I don't know were your from but if your close you can save the shipping. They sell brand new unlocked phones and you can decert for free OTA from Orange.

i can upgrade and get another phone for around £200... i think. i could get one and ship it to the us?

if they charged you VAT, they ripped you off. As a non-resident of the country it's being purchased at, you either don't get charged it or you get a refund from the government (theirs, not ours).

Orange does not charge you VAT if you live in the US and after shipping, it's like 450 bucks. It would be foolish to pay more.

Am I the only one that sees that Orange Developer link or something?

You can purchase from my website at www.alienwireless.net.

I know the person in LasVegas that you're talking about; He purchased his from me.

Also, I don't think the Orange Developer phone is the same as the consumer one. My supplier had order some developer ones by accident and the OS didn't operate the same. It was filled with alot of scripts and things. He said it looked like it was for an engineer or something, that would be the developer version that you are talking about.

I didn't know they give you your VAT charges back. I got my prices from that site it says plus VAT??? that is a cheap price. I don't know I bought mine from my link.

errr, why dont you just buy the cheapest one you can from the uk with the cheapest contract, contact orange and tell them you want it unlocked and they'll do it, but you have to pay the remainder of the 12 month contract. You'd probably have to get a uk resident or something to do it all for you. But this means you have an unlocked phone with no contract.

So, say you can get a phone for around 70 quid, and get the cheapest contract (13 quid a month), so, 13 *12 =156 + the 70 quid, that comes to a bargain price of 226 quid which at todays exchange rate is 355.32 USD

all you need then is the shipping charge

hows that for an idea? anyone know why this isnt possible?

Just checked the orange site for the Developer phone and well if you look they ask if you are tax exempt IF YES = AMERICAN or non EU then you pay

Phone = GBP 305

Shipping = GBP 46.50

Total = GBP 351.5

Gives in Dollars $552.35 which does not include duty (IMPORT) in the USA …

So including a duty of lets say 20% on the GBP305 this makes $ 648.21

So a cost from the guy above of $675.00 means

a) Good deal he is only making $26.79

 BAD deal cause there is no import duty and he makes $122.75

Don’t forget that the $552.35/$648.21 includes shipping to your door on the web page (LA) you pay the shipping extra (me thinks...)

Please don't pay over $400.00 in the US for a phone. There are at least 10 UK phones listed on eBay at any time. I just bought mine that way in excellent condition for US$400.00

I've seen some go for as low as $250 having slightly scratched screens.

I lost a bid for a NEW ONE with no reserve for around $300 because I wasn't quick enough in the last seconds of the auction.

I bought my T68 that way but there is a very big risk buying it from ebay there are alot of bad auctions on there. I personally would rather buy from a dealer brand new and pay an extra $100 than take that chance.

The price on my website has dropped to $650 now, and I'm now willing to sell to Modaco members the SPV for $625. Just PM me so I know your're a Modaco member if interested.

625?

You don't see that as REALLY REALLY high considering that Orange dropped the price to about COST to unload them to make way for the better phones coming out?

You don't think 625 is high when you can buy the developer phone from Orange cheaper?

You don't think 625 is high when you could pay off a year's contract and phone and come out cheaper?

Oh yah, EBAY has them much cheaper...

The developer phone is more expensive.

Also, don't get into my business 'McHale.' I run my business the way I want to, and I run it successfully.

The developer phone from Orange is 480 bucks plus shipping (73 bucks) and about 30 bucks to bring it across the border. Unless you live in Europe, you don't pay VAT. So at worst, it would be less than 600 and it would be guarenteed new with a warranty from Orange. Considering how many posts I have seen that say the ROM is corrupt and it has to be sent to Orange or HTC, I'd hate to take that chance...

If these phones have the same 1 year warranty, it's not a really bad price in comparison though.

The developer phone from Microsoft is 500. And before you say it's pre-production, don't forget that as FW improves, you can flash the phone. It will reach production levels eventually (though I wouldn't purchase another Compal product unless someone gave me a car or something really good with it to offset the cost of the anguish and frustration).

I'm not ripping on your business, I just think that's an awful lot of money for any phone, especially a soon to be last year's model. When the new SPVx is finally out, these SPV's are gonna go pretty cheap I'd imagine. But in all fairness, when these first started coming out, I saw them reach well over a grand on Ebay. EEK GADS!!!

Now what I want to find out, is what happened to all those SPV's that were stolen from the warehouse? Those should have been popping up by now pretty cheap. ;)

My phones come with the 1 year manufacturer's warranty too.

then I will have to say, for hassle free delivery (meaning no waiting for across the pond shipping and border hassles), it's not a bad price. Besides, how many other vendors are selling them here in the states SIM-FREE without contract?

I couldn't find anything on your site that explained warranty or guarantees or anything.

Can you get me one in a quad-band model? ;)

-Mc

p.s. on an unrelated note, your website prompted me to ask this question: Does quad-band MIDI files work as ringtones? I've been told by several sources they won't work but your site says it does and the manual and ads I'd seen say they work. I'm about *THIS* close and saying screw the 850 as T-Mobile and AT&T have the coverage where I am and I won't get billed for roaming.

Guest aiwapro

I think I will add the guarantee to the Company Info part of the site.

About the ringtones, I don't see what that has to do with the band of the phones or not, but I might not be understanding this correctly. Please explain.

Guest McHale

oops. that's what I get for typing an email while answering on the forum.

substitute polyphonic for quad-band.

;)

I don't have the SPV. If you take a polyphonic midi file, will it work? I've been told by those who have it that it won't.
