Guest Ben Carnes Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Hey everyone. Having quietly read through the Modaco forums for many months, I thought it was time to post a message : ) It would seem that Orange UK have made the Keyboard drivers available for download; which I have done (but not yet installed because the instructions seem to suggest it does a ROM update, requiring AC power and I'm not near my cradle : D). Although I just tried to do a connection to Orange Updates now and it is timing out, unable to place the call (?). It is listed under Crictal Updates; the first one of those ever too. Yay. I will install it and see if everything still works though - i.e. decertification and such. This is a brand new replacement SPV I received today, my sixth now, although the last one was great until I did lose it (oops!). Good luck on getting the update!
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I'm inatalling it at the mo  It takes ages, I'll let you know if it buggers up my phone or not :!:
Guest Palindrome Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Looks like it updates to OS version 1.3.7. I don't have a keyboard but I'm always up for a bit of update action, if it's worth it. When you get it sorted on your phones would you please let me know if it's worth updating for keyboardless peeps. Don't want to go through decerting again, unless it's worth the hassle. I believe there's gonna be a 1.5 update soon anyway, so it maybe better to hang on for that. Cheers.
Guest James Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 dont think i will bother if nothing else has been "fixed".
Guest terminater2_uk Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 be careful, apparently it re-certs your phone, re-locks the sim, and stops you undoing it again.
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 well i doubt it could relock the sim, or those who paid to have their sim unlocked would be rather annoyed, it could stop you from doing it if you haven't already tho.
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 err, you can unlock it again, either by ota or the decerter.... only problem, use the decerter and the drivers disappear again heheh
Guest capt_janeway Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 ota? I know I'm stupid - see tagline!!
Guest ajb3000 Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Over The Air, from the Orange Developer site.
Guest Palindrome Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Decerting it again is not a major problem but does anyone know if we get anything updated apart from the addition of the keyboard drivers?
Guest capt_janeway Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 The OTA doesn't seem to work - been waiting 30 minutes for the confirmation  ;)
Guest Emad Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Apparently the latest developer phones have 1.5 on them (according to msmobiles) and those are decerted.
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 i should think developer phones are decerted else they wouldnt be much fun to develop for hehe
Guest mcwarre Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 err, you can unlock it again, either by ota or the decerter.... only problem, use the decerter and the drivers disappear again heheh  Err Midnight, I applied update unlocked OTA and the drivers are still there and working (using it to post this). To confirm: Keyboard works, app unlocked and sim unlocked!!! At long last yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest mcwarre Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 The OTA doesn't seem to work - been waiting 30 minutes for the confirmation  Â ;) Did you get the SPV screenshot on your PC? If not try again with all firewalls (Norton, ZOne Alarm) turned off.
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 not if you use the software decerter method tho, which is what i mean (like me, i dont have gprs, so have to use the software unlocking) of course, come the 1.5 update, i may have to get gprs just to unlock
Guest mcwarre Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Fairy Snuff. Take it you are on PAYG or another network then? If you are at the meet I will put in my SIM and OTA unlock it if you want.
Guest mcwarre Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Midnight, Sur it's got nothing to do with your post count? 666?
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 no, cos its 667  nah, pointless m8, with the amount of reg changes and resets my phone does it aint worth it, and no, i'm on orange, just never took out gprs
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 i dont mind doing the software decert, i have a cab i made that installs all my software, tweaks my phone, installs my homescreen and ringtones, takes around 5 mins for a full hard reset, decert and install
Guest Richie M Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 i dont mind doing the software decert, i have a cab i made that installs all my software, tweaks my phone, installs my homescreen and ringtones, takes around 5 mins for a full hard reset, decert and install  Showing off Midy is not big and it's not clever ;)
Guest drblow Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 So, is the general concensus here that it is OK to do this update & then OTA decert again?!? And can anybody say definitavely whether it's worth doing this update if you don't have a keyboard?? Are there any other fixes included??
Guest Simon Desser Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I can assure you that (on my phone) I updated and then de-certed again OTA no probs. However, I've yet to notice ANY differences apart from the keyboard drivers/app :?:
Guest mcwarre Posted April 12, 2003 Report Posted April 12, 2003 Midnight you King Tweakster you, That cab would save me hours. Coukdn't qost it could you?
