Guest utternoob Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Hi all. Further to my topic a while ago, having now found a PC, I'm looking at how to get Linux. On my search, I found this guide ( http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/EBCD/Ubuntu ) on how to get both Ubuntu and Windows 7 on a Windows bootloader. Has anyone done something like this, and if so, what guide(s) did you use? Cheers Terry
Guest C3C0 Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Mine was done similar way using easy bcd. Had win7 preinstalled. I shrunk the win partition to get space for ubuntu. After installing ubuntu on that partition I used easybcd to set boorloader.
Guest utternoob Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Ah right. Not sure on the drive capacity yet. It's a present :D but I think that guide is easy for me to follow. Tried the Canonical wiki but so many strange words in there made it confusing
Guest omegavesko Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Getting both Ubuntu and Windows 7 using the Windows bootloader is extremely easy. Just download the Ubuntu ISO, burn/mount it, and run the Wubi installer from inside Windows. It does everything for you.
Guest utternoob Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 Excellent. Seems easy enough *touches wood*
Guest quazar666 Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 And what's wrong with Grub2? That's installed automatically with Ubuntu...
Guest razzmataz1478 Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 And what's wrong with Grub2? That's installed automatically with Ubuntu... What I was thinking.
Guest omegavesko Posted November 22, 2012 Report Posted November 22, 2012 And what's wrong with Grub2? That's installed automatically with Ubuntu... Yeah, I did think the question was a bit strange, since GRUB lets you boot into Windows anyway. Both methods work, at any rate.
