Guest Ethanol Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I recently converted a load of my MP3s to MP3pro so I could fit twice as many on my storage card. The problem is that I believe that the media player on the SPV doesn't have an MP3pro codec. This means that the quality is only that of MP3 at 64Kbs instead of MP3pro quality. Does anybody know if it is possible to download a codec that will work with the Smartphone media player, or is there a third party player with an MP3pro codec built in? :?:
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 why not just use wma? ok, quality aint quite as good as mp3pro (not all that much difference), and the file sizes are very similar (both much smaller than standard mp3 at the same bitrate).
Guest Emad Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Try WMA at 64 kbps - with those headphones it sounds more than good enough. And the conversion makes it louder too.
Guest Ethanol Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 I have converted a load of tracks to MP3pro. It would be much easier just to download a codec or new player. Plus I like MP3pro, it maybe just my imagination but the sound is slightly richer than wma. Most of my backup cds also contain MP3pro files.
Guest Emad Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Damn buggy connection  I imagine also that the best chance of being able to play MP3Pro files is with SmartAmp - MP3s are coming on it soon, so it shouldn't be that hard to add a dll for mp3pro..
Guest vijay555 Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 the mp3pro.dll is not opensource or anything is it, tho? AFAIK the winamp plugin is the only generally available plugin, so unless someone reverse engineers compatibility with the dll (as they do with XBOX mediaplayer), we'll have to wait for code to be released somehow i think. I like mp3pro, but went back to mp3 just to be sure of compatibility,; wma is adequate, and eventually the new mp3 format (which is basically mp3pro) should be best of both worlds... V
Guest midnight Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 nope, it isnt open source, hence the reason it isnt very widespread
Guest fraser Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 It would be much easier just to download a codec or new player. Aparently not by the looks of it! Hope you kept the original files!
