Just a heads up on the Merrimobile coupon codes; $10 off "FACEBOOK" and 5% discount "VIP" codes have a minimum spend of approximately £130, but the 4% discount "MOE" code can be used for purchases under £130.

Goddamit! http://www.gizchina......<br /><br />I was pretty fixed on getting a Vowney V5 then this review came along highly praising the G4. Now im all undecided again! :(

Yeah just saw that. The thing is the vowney is a whole lot cheaper than the Jiayu. Jiyuas international pricing has gone nuts from the hype, the basic version is about $269+ now and the Vowney is as low as $175 on some sites. The Jiayu will be probably better built and has thinner bezels. But apart from that I cant imagine it will be much better in terms of performance as the rest of the spec is basically the same. From the samples I have seen the 13mp camera on the G4 also does not look any better than the 8MP on the vowney, infact i would go as far to say the vowney camera images actually look a bit brighter and clearer (I could be wrong though). I'm not sure around $100 for slightly better build, thinner bezels, more MP's on the camera and a slightly bigger battery is worth it. Be better off waiting for the MT6589T version which will actually have a significant performance increase.

Obviously I'm partly speculating but mine or someone else's vowney will arrive reasonably soon, so will be able to see if its actually any good....maybe wait till then.

Also if this is true that would be bonkers....

official Miui rom for a MTK6589 phone

Good news for all MTK6589 as it offers good opportunities to port MIUI to the other devices :)

about the MTK6589T

i would not be surprised if its not even an improved Soc, but rather just an overclock...

since there is never any kernel source manufactures could just charge you extra for an overclock

and say its an advanced newer version of the Soc...

will be interesting to hear if these MTK6589T devices suffer from overheating / poor battery.

Reading this the GPU is also overclocked, from 286 to 357.

http://gizbeat.com/2...89-vs-mtk6589m/

and according to the above a new lower end MTK6589M Soc will be released

"For the even more budget minded consumer, MediaTek will be releasing the MTK6589M as well. The MTK6589M contains a significantly reduced SGX544 GPU and reduced MP support for cameras from 13mp down to 8mp. The SGX544 MHz will be ramped down to 156Mhz from 286 in the standard MTK6589. Gizbeat recommends gamers stay away from this one in 720p devices, though units with 960*540 LCDs should be fine. This will be a great budget option for those not wanting an HD LCD."

As there seems to be something better coming along all the time in terms of these Chinese phones, then if not careful you end up with nothing !!!!!

Mlais MX58 looks like a good phone, but yet another clone of the HTC butterfly. What is it with that HTC Butterfly? Does it have beer flavoured nip... oh never mind. <_<

Well I ordered a V5 today :) , with root and screen protector. With the 4% MOE code all in it was $184.29, which came to £125.03. That's with an exchange rate, listed in my Paypal transaction, of 1 GBP = 1.47396USD. I also asked them to mark the package as a gift costing $30 and to install Google store.

I guess the waiting begins... :P

Yeah, they're an absolute pain in the arse. Ordered my vowney last Friday and still hasn't shipped, cos apparently it takes time to root etc. At least yours has left the country! Mines supposed to be shipping tomorrow, be surprised if it does though.

Although after reading the Jiayu G4 review on Gizchina though, i'm kind of pleased I didn't spend that much more for what is basically a very similar spec.

I hope you are right, as without tracking showing who is to know if it has shipped, fingers crossed though..... ;)

I should have tried that with the payment.... Ask them to ship the phone and when they query the payment I'll just say "don't worry it will arrive". :P

They replied to my request..

Thanks for your information,we will do it as your request, and please don't worry,we will help you root it,also insstall play store

I am thinking about getting a V5 to replace my G300. When someone gets one could you please update about how loud the music is through earphones. The G300 is too quiet for my taste.

Its a bit vague but I think there might be info here about how to root the v5? It could be useful if merimobiles are taking so long to do it before posting.

I can't get the whole page to display properly but perhaps it might make sense to someone with more time / knowledge.

Apologies in advance if its a load of rubbish.
