[OFFTOPIC] China Phone Discussion - UPDATED 30/10/2013

Now we have enough time to search for a reliable xiaomi red rice seller

with a price close to those in China.

Got to say I'm interested! Any idea when the phone will be released?

Also, still can't understand why a moderator hasn't moved this topic to the "Other Phones" section.

i may opt for the xiaomi, simply because my v5 doesn't have gorilla glass and working with glass as i do, the screen protector is scratched to hell already.

This is very interesting as we heard before that Xiaomi is the most popular phone in china but here we see that Huawei and Lenovo lead. What phone manufacturer is on top in China and worldwide (regarding Chinese phones).

Anybody can place in order of 1,2,3....the most popular phones? Thanks

Great news for Xiaomi fans:

We were excited about Xiaomi Red Rice phone price and specs. Price especially. smile.png

Then disapointed with 3g specs - TD SCDMA was usable in China only. sad.png

Today, Xiaomi anounced that Red Rice goes WCDMA!

(for ignorants - it means that 3g works)

For the same price of $129 (in China)!!!

http://www.anqu.com/wenda_560/48717/

just hope the worldwide sellers don't do the same as they have done with the G4 and abuse the price because of its popular brand

(adding on an extra 60 to 70 pound) and with 7.45 million pre orders i bet its going to be a hard job getting hold of one.

Domestic smartphone brand recognition in China

http://www.techinasi...-mobile-brands/

Aaah, it was an on-line poll, a certain degree of self selection...

When I toted my Huawei around China I got mostly blank stares,

even after lifting the battery to show the Huawei logo and Made in China.

Google on the back made most guess it was an American phone.

A couple of people up in the tech scene recognised the brand Huawei,

but didn't know they sold mobiles. Might be a regional thing in a big country,

I was mostly out west away from the big coastal cities.

It is a marketing thing. If you gather all of phone geeks in China, Xiaomi would be the winner.

If you gather all of average chinese phone portal users, big names with massive advertising would take the lead.

@tillaz

Based on Red Rice`s price in China and Phone shops ($130 vs $180) it is more like

30 GBP difference.

Anyway, that is much more than usual 0-10% rise for most of chinese phones.

I guess that price will be near $160 (100 GBP), few months after sales starts.

Hey found this phone on aliexpress. Has anyone seen this phone before? Anyone got more info on it?

http://www.aliexpres...1004018960.html

it looks like a great phone but the price is to good to be true, i would think its a scam if i am honest.

i could be wrong though..

http://www.slatedroi...dx-x600-exynos/

but this seems more like the real price

Yeah it's probably not the right price. Also there doesn't seem to be any rom support for it so it will be stuck on ICS.

Right, i think im gonna get this one, id appreciate any feedback or alternatives.

its wcdma 2100 only and its a mtk chip so may have gps issues,

i await your feedback

Seems like a lot of money for just a dual core. I would've thought you could get the zp810 or the zp910 (both quadcores) for a little more money ($180-190).

First:

Don`t even look at the phones you can`t find on one of this stores,

or that don`t have original decent website.

Second:

That ZDX is a fake phone. There are some fake phones that use MTK SoC which

can be faked in software to look like it has Exynos or other more expencive SoC inside.

Exynos manufacturer has conctrast with few known names only.

You can`t have that chip in a no-name phone.

Octa core... :)

If that went inside, somehow, everything else in that phone (materials and work) would be worth no more than 5 cents.

@metal.mickey

If you want 5.3" phone, look for H9500+, it has faster chip (mtk6589) and the price is almost equal (antelife)

Or, even better, Newman K1 (Tmallbox) or K1a, K1b with lower resolution and lower price

Fair enough, I would personally go for something with a little rom support anyways.

GPS is working fine after I followed the instructions given in Post #3 here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2266634

My general feelings after a couple of days use is that the Cubot GT99 is solidly built and feels good in the hand. It is very responsive and fast. I wish I had found it before spending nearly £400 on a Galaxy S3 !!

The best thing so far is battery life. With my S3 I was lucky to get from dawn to dusk before I was panicking looking for a charger. Overnight I could loose 25% battery on the S3 with it on standby!

With the GT99 I am getting between 24 and 36 hours without recharging. Overnight on standby it looses about 5%.

My S3 will be going on eBay soon !!

Pretty pleased so far.........

Maan, thanks for the input and info. ive read a couple of poor reviews on the 9500+ re lag and battery life, but i guess with a 5 inch phone the screen is always gonna be a battery chewer.

now i really confused. my eyes say buy the ones that looks nice, but the head says get the one with "community" behind it?

i dont want a sgs3 clone or a white one and id prefer dedicated home keys, i dunno why

Im leaning towards the newman K1 now but im completely blinded by choice.

Don't know much about the THL. The K1 has been out for a while now so has less features that other phones of a similar price. However it has a good camera (f2.2 backlit cmos) and a good battery size for a 5" screen. Also you can get screen protectors and cases easily on ebay. If you are looking to spend £140 try and track down a Neo N003.

The XYZ Z1 has been announced to be priced at 1399 yuan which is almost twice the price of the X1, so count me out.

Seems like the Xioami Red rice might be the phone to get.
