Guest neuronisis Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Hi, just wondered if any one else has experienced this strange problem. I went abroad to Thailand for 3 weeks. Before i went my phone was unlocked. For the 1st week or so i was happy on the beach playing mario bros on my GameBoy Emulator and using other unsigned apps. Until the 2nd week i went to play it again and it came up with the old CERTIFICATION issue, just like my phone wasn't unlocked. So i turned the phone on and off. My SPV had some kind of mentle break down i think. It had reverted back to the 'brand new out of the box state'. None of my unsigned apps would work. Very Strange!!! I was wondering if some kind of update was sent to my phone but on checking the the forum nothing was mentioned. Also roaming worked fine. Looks like i'm going to have to unlock my phone again. Any ideas on this one guys?
Guest Bazz Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Not sure it's anything to do with the fact you were roaming: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3359
Guest Rob.P Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I'm off to Thailand in 3 weeks for 2, so if it happens to me then I'll let you know. I doubt that being in another country could affect the phone in such a way, but stranger things have happened.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I seem to remember a few people reporting "spontaneous" hard-resets in microsoft.public.smartphone a while back. Mine did a sort of "½" reset - all the settings went back to standard yet my custom themes and stuff stayed on the phone. Weirdness.
Guest neuronisis Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Yeh, Chris. Mine was more like a half reset. All my custom themes, xml's, backgrounds and programs stayed on the phone but reverted to a new out of box state SPV and it wouldn't run any of my unsigned apps. As for it being in another country, it probably didn't have any thing to do with it but at the time i was destraut as i was doing so well on my Mario Bros i was willing to blame anything!! :) Ho hum a real head scratcher. Anyway, cheers guys. P.S. Now i'm back, i just synched up and took a look at the mxip_oem_10.provxml and the other files which i changed when sucessfully unlocking my phone and they have reverted back to locked state. So it must have reset itself.
Guest DamianJauregui Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Does anyone have anymore information on this because I'm about to unlock my phone. The interesting thing is that I live in Basel, Switzerland and my apartment is on a tiny bit of Switzerland that is wedged between France and Germany. I can get Orange CH, Orange FR, O2 DE, Vodafone DE, TD-1, SFR, F Telecom, Sunrise [CH] and Swisscom. At home my phone constantly switches between all these networks, depending on the weather, position in the apartment, everything! If the phone reverts to an unlocked [for apps] status when it roams this could cause me some real issues in developing and testing apps... Damian.

You'll need to set your SPV to manual network selection, then you can make sure it stays on, for example, Orange CH. When I'm travelling I generally set the bassa to one net and have done with - it never roams then, just reports "No network" if there's no coverage...give it a try, see what happens
