Guest gears0001 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Will Orange drop the original SPV like a hot brick ? The SPVx is about to hit the streets Gears www.coolsmartphone.com
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 So does this mean that all us early-adopters/beta-testers/tech-support/advertisers/developers get left in the cold? Surly we deserve to be given a choice? IMHO most SPV owners are hobbyists, thus most of us would want a SPVx. What happens now?
Guest gears0001 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I doubt it mate - look how many SmartPhones have been announced in the past week - all Tanager-based models. Also, does this new SPVx mean a sudden change of heart by Orange ? Maybe they'll be releasing the app-lock next !!! :)
Guest omar_g Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 The phone on the link above has just had an Orange logo hastily edited on to it. It was there 5 minutes ago! :)
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 It's the revised keypad that interests me, seeing as the SPV will be the only one with a "fiddly" keypad. Surly there not going to manufacture both handsets? When one is the update to the other. PS Stop calling me Surly!
Guest SirGaz Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Have a look here http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3585 Paul says that this is his "new" phone as supplied from MS and he says it's the Tanager, looks pretty similar to me. He says says there is one big difference betweeen it and the SPV. Now we now what, a few improvements  I think that most of us who have bought an SPV should be offered a free upgrade to the new SPVx for the fact that we were beta testers and for all the valliant work achieved in developing it into a proper phone.
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Bravo SirGaz You sir are a true gallant man!
Guest gears0001 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Absolutely - Me and Paul are OK 'cus we've been given a Tanager by MS, but what about the SPV owners ? They're not going to be happy - and like you say, why would Orange sell two almost identical phones ? Is it going to turn out like the Nokia 6210 / Nokia 6310i episode ?
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Or the T68 and T68i. Gears, did orange ask you to change the logo or did you do it off your own bat? What was the old logo, free one or something?
Guest gears0001 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Hhhehe.. I just splodged an Orange badge over the "One Free" badge.. See below... Old Image (One Free) New Image (Botched Fake Version!) I presume it will look like this, although they'll probably put the logo on the other side now.. ;) Orange didn't ask me to put the logo on, although I guess it'll be interesting to see if that image travels.. hehehe.. maybe it'll appear on The Register tomorrow.. :) Judging by their release, it looks like they're aiming the Tanager at gamers, chucking games etc etc in, whilst the SPV is to be aimed at Business Execs... Is this the right line to take ?
Guest Treadsoftly Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Interesting that the SPVx will be released just at the time that the GPRS package will come to an end. I wonder if there will be some kind of sweetener for current SPV owners? It would be nice to think there would be, given all the research data that they have admitted that we have provided them with. Somehow, I doubt it though.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 LOCKED. See http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=3604 P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 This one big improvment: The Tanager's CPU is clocked at the full 132ish MHz? :)
