Guest Aonz Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I rang Orange Customer Services today about an unrelated SMS problem (fixed with SIM update) and the customer services rep told me there was a software update due very soon for the UK SPV. He said it would be almost exactly the same as the Danish one. I didn't even ask him about the update he just told me when i said i had a SPV, he also said he had one himself but thought it was a bit slow. So it looks like you lot might be right. :)

Guest madu Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." - Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977 Exactly - now you just need one of those SPVs!! :) But seriously - what a tw@!!
Guest Bazz Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I prefer this one: Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. -- Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc., 1989
Guest ClintEastman Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 "There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home." - Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corp., 1977 I think you will find that that was a correct statement at the time. I remember the first PC we had at home (1984, pre IBM PC release, a present from IBM!) At the time it had the biggest WOW factor you could imagine, had that newfangled DOS on it, but in the end it was sh!t. And it’s list price was about £5,000!
Guest sbsdegb1 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 5K... How bloody much. I had a ZX81, ZX Spectrum and BBC B before 1984 ....
Guest Aonz Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 gone a little OT here but heres a good one: "Everything that can be invented has been invented." - Charles H. Duell, Commissioner, U.S. Office of Patents, 1899
Guest Kallisti Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 There's a certain amount of wisdom in the last one. The US Patent office doesn't exactly patent inventions as much as stupid ideas.
Guest kevlar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Will the update lock my phone again? Will it alter any settings/menu/homescreen configurations? Kevlar
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 There's a certain amount of wisdom in the last one. The US Patent office doesn't exactly patent inventions as much as stupid ideas. Not ALWAYS stupid ideas... Sam Colt attempted to patent the revolver in London before he patented it the USA. In London they pointed out that revolvers were already in existence and had been around for years (witness Puckle's revolving cannon, which fired round bullets for Christian targets, and square ones for Turks!) So they granted an application for a specific type of single-action composite-frame revolver, leaving other types NOT covered (a gap ably filled by Adams excellent double-action revolvers, for example) Back in the US, the Patent Office happily granted him an exclusive right to make ANY kind of revolving firearm - a monopoly broken only when S&W purchased the Rollin White patent (for revolvers where the cylinder is bored ALL the way through). Not exactly SPV-relevant, but a chance to show that I'm more than an ex-Orange techie!
