Guest reganlives Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 I just been doing a bit of digging to see if there were any further updates available when I came across this...Should be helpful for people I think. Not going to try the update myself yet really as I'm still waiting for the full JB update rather than a beta. http://www.pandawillforum.com/showthread.php?15843-ROM-Android-4-1-Beta1-ROM-for-Jiayu-G3-sku35799-amp-sku35773-(Jan-18th2013-update)
Guest FrankieADZ Posted February 20, 2013 Report Posted February 20, 2013 im with you there, i'd rather wait for the full update.
Guest [email protected] Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 There seems to be a shortage of G3s available in stores..maybe too much demand or too little supply..do wish it would be the former, so there would be better odds that we get updates and custom ROMs.. 4.2.2 anyone? ;)
Guest fpm_paolo Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 there would be better odds that we get updates and custom ROMs.. sorry I can't understand. What do you mean? Do you mean "there will NOT be updates anymore" or "YES There will be updates"?

Also....I think the G3 is indefinably getting the JB update is all a matter of when & really not to rush it; as no one wants shoddy software, Also want to make the phone as appealing as possible after the launch debarkle.
Guest putbinoot Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 I have went back to ICS as discovered netflix and BBC Iplayer not working, although I don't think this is specific to Jiayu as a lot of companys have had trouble with JB not handling streaming content well for some reason.
Guest reganlives Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 Seems like its best for us to all stay on the original ICS rom for now.
Guest RussellS Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 i suspect that Jiayu might have slowed down production of the G3 due to the fact the G4 & G5 might be coming out within the next 2-6 months. I really don't see this as being the case. People won't wait 2-6 months to get a G4 or G5, they will just go to one of the many different manufacturers making almost identical specced phones. Jiayu are not one of those companies that would command brand loyalty either so I think they will be making G3's as fast as they can if there is demand for them.
Guest [email protected] Posted February 21, 2013 Report Posted February 21, 2013 The longer it stays on demand, the better for us consumers. It would somehow make Jiayu to keep updating the software side of things. Hopefully they'd release kernel sources, too. It would be a good idea for them to do so as well. It could save them from some development costs if they let the modding community help them out.
Guest tomcat_ Posted May 12, 2013 Report Posted May 12, 2013 Hi all, I have the G3N model build 20130223-071508 if i understand correctly the JB beta rom is only for the "older" G3? also would anyone know what is the latest offocial ROM version of ICS for the G3N thanks for your help
Guest reganlives Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 How do you find out which version you have? G3N? What other versions are there?
Guest [email protected] Posted May 14, 2013 Report Posted May 14, 2013 they haven't even released a stable full JB rom yet, then they got g3n, and G3S coming in..what are they thinking? imo they'd be better off releasing sources and letting the modding community take care of the rest..
Guest reganlives Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 I've not seen the G3N or G3S mentioned on any sites. What's the difference with these compared to the normal G3 that most of us have?
Guest RussellS Posted May 28, 2013 Report Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I've not seen the G3N or G3S mentioned on any sites. What's the difference with these compared to the normal G3 that most of us have? Basically, the G3N is the same as the normal G3 except that the Mediatek wireless connectivity chip has been changed. This is because the manufacturer of the chip stopped production of that particular chip and replaced it with an updated version. The old chip was a Mediatek MT6620 and the replacement is a Mediatek MT6628 which, I believe, is just a pin compatible drop in replacement. However, the software drivers are different which means that a rom for the old G3 will not work with the G3N. The G3S is a completely different phone albeit in the same case. This uses a quad core Mediatek MT6589 processor (same as the G4) instead of the dual core processor in the original G3. The G3S comes with Jelly Bean v4.2 as standard. Edited May 28, 2013 by RussellS
Guest reganlives Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Hope they release an official JB update for the G3 soon. I'm getting tired of waiting now lol

Guest putbinoot Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 As it appears that a G3 rom can be used in a G3N with the use of a patch would it not also be true that the G3N official room could be used with a patch for the G3 chip.
Guest RussellS Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 That is a very interesting thought. However, I haven’t seen anywhere that the G3N is going to have Jelly Bean. It is only the G3S that has Jelly Bean and that is a different CPU. Whether that can be ported to work on the original G3 I don't know.
