Just had a letter from VM explaining the 3.5gb new data per month limit but also that tethering will not be allowed with effect from 28/3/13 for anyone (no matter when you joined).

Been OK while it lasted but it's goodbye from me, VM. This sort of move is just playing into the hands of 3 imo. Yes, I'll be paying £25/mth but all the uncertainties/nonsense/changing of the goalposts etc etc we have had with VM will hopefully be a thing of the past.

Can networks actually tell that you are tethering?

Yes, but even when they say it's not allowed it doesn't follow that they'll actually block it or charge more for it.

Not sure the hassle of selling osd and paying more for something not quite so good will be less than hassle of unlocking, though if you have bluemoonrising's luck it will be.

As far as I have read it only stopped for unlimited. If you have a data cap you can tether.

There is a post on the virgin media forums from a rep about it.

(Virgin sort of annoy me (More the TV / Broadband part of it) but they are not as pretentious as Giff Gaff. And no doubt EE are increasing their prices for MVNO (The 4G kit and the useless refitting of all the shops to pay for and their own prices are increasing).
