Contacts Synch with PC

I use the contacts and synch with Outlook on the PC. At the moment my contacts are a bit untidy, is it possible to clean these up on the PC then overwrite the whole contact list to my Phone. Also does anyone know if you can select the contacts that you want to transfer to the phone, as opposed to doing all of them and then carrying baggage in the phone book that you don't necessarily need. :?

firstly if you change a contact on your PC it will be updated on the phone as well. so there would be no need to reload all th contacts.

you can choose which contacts are synconised by ---when the phone is out of the cradle open up the activesync control panel --on the bottom of this control panel it lists all the information types---double click on contacts and there is an option of what contacts to sync and what contacts not to sync

Guys,

I recommend that you backup outlook before syncing, as I managed to delete all of my contacts by syncing with my SPV.

I synced with the SPV, and it synced 200'ish contacts, but only about 50 had phone numbers, so I told it only to sync contacts which I had set to the "Phone Calls" categorty.

However this didn't remove any contacts from the phone, so I started to delete them manually off the phone. And I found it quicker to just keep pressing delete rather than check which contact I was deleting (as it always takes you back to the top of the contacts list).

Anyway, when I synced again, ActiveSync decided that as the contacts were no longer on my SPV that I didn't want them in Outlook !!!

Hence no contacts at all!!!

Fortunately, I had backed up all my contacts the previous day ( as I was having other problems with my email).

I have used other syncing software with PDA's and there is usually a better set of rules where you can define the master device.

Activesync, seems to give the phone equal priority with Outlook and no way to change this.

As far I can see this is an big oversight. I would rather be forced to only delete contacts in Outlook, or be given the option about what machine is master of the data ...
