Guest Lifeforms Posted May 26, 2013 Report Posted May 26, 2013 Hi, I had a san fran few years ago when they first came out, and threw on a rom. fast forward it being donated on and finally dying (or being brutally murdered, not sure which!) and I've gotten another one to use solely as an MP3 player/App fiddler/Bus stop wait amuser. I seem to have an old orange one, that was unlocked, rooted, and had a custom rom on it. My inability to leave things alone mean that I seemed to get it stuck in a clockwork circle, and thus went looking for a rom to replace. Through failures on Gen 1 roms I've determined it's Gen 2, with I believe an AMOLED screen on it. So I got Swedish Spring RLS5 on it now, but I find listening through music (using winamp on headphones) to sound terrible. I also wanted to install a few old games I bought and when I go through market it wont download them for me. Starts, then stops and I can't even seem to find an error. Logging in to google play it would appear the games are compatible and sending them to phone via the dekstop does the same again. (where's my water, & Perry) It came with an sd card, but I put in a brand new bigger one and I wonder if I need to do something with it? Create folders, partition it, or something? Having browsed the Gen 2 roms I was looking at CyanogenMod for Blade - 7.0.2 STABLE TFT/OLED [GEN2] (2.3 Gingerbread) but it says the google apps are separate download, how do I get it, and how do I install it? I'm assuming that means Google market/google play. I basically don't want an all singing, dancing rom. I have no sim in it, and no intention of using it with sim/cellular network, so must retain Wifi capabilities, be able to play music (will investigate a better music player too) and be able to install games that I've previously bought on Play. I have obviously been playing with some roms, but I'm not sure how to get google store on it for those which don't come with it.
Guest matcho13579 Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) There's a package named Gapps or Google Apps and it contains, surprisingly, Google apps! If you're using your phone for listening to music and playing games, I recommend you the latest CM7 nightly and you can download the Gapps package here: http://blade.windows98.co.uk/downloads/gapps-gb-20110828l-signed.zip Version of Google Play is pretty old, so just download the newest version of it and replace Phonesky.apk with downloaded one Installing the Gapps is the same as putting a ROM in it Edited May 27, 2013 by matcho13579
Guest Lifeforms Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Thank you!! Obviously I've played with a few roms, and believe I'm on the cm 7 stable release, and now with google play on it. The problem I was having was that I was aware I needed the package with gapps, but loads of the threads that linked to it somewhere don't work any more, same with some of the rom downloads. This one also downloads previously purchased stuff without failing too. Playing them is somewhat slow, but eh, can't have everything! As long as I can pre-download new and topical reads to it, that'll keep me happy for a bit :D I do appreciate that it's an old product now, but it's still quite useful. I found my headphones to be the issue with sound. It has an inbuilt mic, and for some reason it almost muted, or at least semi muted voice parts of the music. By holding the mic button down on the inline remote on headphones it played properly. Again tested with different non-mic'ed headphones and music playback is fine. Quite happy with it as it us, but have a couple of roms that I'm playing around with regarding function. I think one was too stripped down for me, and I missed the animated fishies wallpaper I'd become quite attached to.
