My father has changed his mobile so I'm going to use his Hauwei Ascend G300, it currently has Gingerbread installed and I'm looking to flash a custom rom on it and I'm a bit stuck, wondered if anyone could and be willing to give me a hand.

I've been following this guide:

http://huaweig300.com/huawei-g300-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-ics-rom-from-scratch/

And I'm currently stuck at this point:

http://huaweig300.com/huawei-g300-install-a-custom-jelly-bean-ics-rom-from-scratch/check-and-update-...

I downloaded the b952 update zip and extract it to the SD Card and try and tell the phone do the update as the guide says but it justs reboots the mobile.....

Anyone got any ideas or pointers?

My baseband is 109808, B895

Gingerbread is far faster than ics. I advice you not to upgrade.

Tried installing from the SD Card as the guide I'm following suggests .... doesn't work, the phone just reboots.

My intention is to install a custom rom, I'm just following the guide I linked to in my opening post, as I understand from the guide, I need to do this step.

What do you find is faster? opening apps or homescreen scrolling?

You could always try turning off the phone, taking out the battery and then putting it back in after 10 seconds. Then hold volume up AND down at the same time. Then hold power. You should see a screen with a pink bar.

Also I would recommend staying on gingerbread, they are the only good stock ROMs

I have tried that also, I get a pink screen rather than a bar and it stays like that - I have to take the battery out again to reboot the phone again.

As stated previously, it was my intention to install a custom ROM, but have resigned myself to staying with GB, not because I want to because I have no other choice unless I buy a new device or can determine what the problem is here :(

Thanks to everyone who tried to help with this issue, but I have decided to return to my Lumia 800, ended up been disappointed with the overall performance of this phone.

Yes I know that .. I've been using a G300 for the past few days, I have now gone back to using a Lumia 800 which I used before the G300.
