[Q] Why are the silver patch and the two terminals there?

I was wondering from the beginning as to why the silver patch is there at all. Also it seems to be connected to two terminals. And these also match with pins on the back side of the device itself. Can this be related to wireless charging?

Maybe. But the connection seems to be broken. Not sure. I'll have to check if NFC works without the back cover on the device.

It is NFC, it looks like the one on the back of the Nexus 7
