email does not wake my phone?

I have a Problem with my email not switching on my phone from sleep,

1) If I have Wi-Fi on with or without data enabled the phone will not wake up when receiving an email.

2) If I turn off Wi-Fi and have data enabled then phone wakes when receiving an email

Anybody had this before and managed to fix it?
