RIP: ZTE Blade has died, whats a good alternative these days?

Hi Folks,

As title says, it looks like my ZTE has finally died... Touchscreen barely works!!! :( Grrr... Still, served me well-ish....

However, I am after idea's of a possible replacement.... I maybe getting a Samsung Note (N7000), it just depends if a friend is selling it, and at how much...??

But if not, what's your opinion of new budget phones today?

1) Needs to be PAYG

2) Unlocked, or be able to be easily unlocked via a software mod (like the Blades)

3) Have plenty and plenty of Custom ROM support

4) Be within budget or no more than £150

5) Have fairly decent, but not amazing... hardware!

Answers on a postcard (or within this forum will do.... ;) lol )

Huawei ascend y300 from carphone warehouse, you can get it for £69.95 with topup or £59.95 as a pay as you go upgrade ( http://www.carphonew...nes/HUAWEI_Y300 ). So the phone comes network unlocked and a bootloader unlock can be requested straight from huawei.

Specs wise its a 4 inch screen at 480x800, 512mb of ram and 4gb of rom with sd card slot. Runs 4.1 jellybean at stock. Runs a Qualcomm MSM8225 Snapdragon chipset so a dual core 1Gb Cortex A5 with an adreno 203 GPU, a 1730 mAh battery and a 5 MP camera accompanied by a VGA front camera.

To be honest the phone is starting to get rom support as it has a modified stock rom by tillaz (but he has now sold his phone) and Cm10 and cm10.1 nearly becoming fully working, there are also roms like LEWA os. Thank you kindly for your prompt and informative reply... I did look at the Y300, as well as the G300 and the G330 from Huawei... As all of them look good spec wise...

But it appears only the G300 has a active ROM support at the moment...?? I do hope the others will take off, esp the Y300 as its much better spec.

Are there any other phones that have good rom support, and at a budget price?? Ive looked around, and it appears only the ZTE has a very active support...

Well imo there's no better deal out atm than the Nexus 4 if you can pony up an extra £20 or so to your max budget and manage with just 8gb of storage - oh and wait a couple of weeks until it ships again :)

I am thinking about the blade V, my only wory is unlocking it as I think that was a problem on the blade 3 model and I would miss my goody bags to much. Will keep a close eye on the forum though and see if it can be unlocked if so its defo my next upgrade.
