Guest spacemonkey Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 This looks interesting. http://windowsfordevices.deviceforge.com/n...5773730106.html It's only the reference design, but at least it's another player providing hardware for this operating system. And Intel has the muscle that frontend phone developers will trust. Looks like they've strayed a bit from microsofts recommendations on button placement for the home and back button. And that thing in the middle, is it a joystick or just a vertical scroller?
Guest madu Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 V Interesting!! It just might grab my attention when released!!
Guest sebset Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 More pics on http://www.pdafrance.com/ :)
Guest madu Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Wow! Looks pretty good I'd say.. Somehow reminds me of Sony mobiles....
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Yeah, looks quite sexy. Not sure about that joystick/roller thing tho. The other important thing is that it's a reference design from intel. They are ultimately not gonna be very interested in making handsets for everyone, they just want to prove that their chips work and if they get picked up then you'll probably start seeing loads of different designs of handsets with the intel gear under the hood. Bodes very well for Smartphone OS getting someone like Intel behind it.
Guest DJHope Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I want one! Id love to be in a posisiton to get all this beta equipment :)
Guest Shuflie Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 I must be in the minority here but I think it looks like an ugly rectangular slab, not very phone like at all. :?
Guest Gorskar Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Is that a built in camera I see on the back? That would be a good bonus. Not sure about that roller thingy though, and the spv does look a lot swankier in my opinion.
Guest sebset Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Is that a built in camera I see on the back? man who took the pic said yes!
Guest xanadu Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Wow! Looks pretty good I'd say.. Somehow reminds me of Sony mobiles.... That's enough to put me off :) ;) Don't like it anyway, looks cheap and tacky, like a toy.
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 No way is that a camera... looks like the plug for the external antenna to me.
Guest casper508 Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 That's enough to put me off :) ;) Don't like it anyway, looks cheap and tacky, like a toy. I second that. Too much of the toy. Seems intel ran out of money when it came to the Design Budget ! Me says Noooo! Cas
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Don't be put off by the design as I'm sure spacemonkey is right at that Intel themselves will never produce the phone - so it'll be up to whoever OEM's their chipset to do the product design part... I'd guess this is Intel trying to make a name for themselves in the low power/mobile market as lets face it, they've never really impressed with their low power devices before!!! Anyone remember the Intel powered desktops you could use as heaters??? High power, high heat output is more Intel's style... ARM and Transmeta with their Crusoe chip are somewhat more credible in the low power consumption, high performance market...
Guest sebset Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 How is it possible to play games with this kind of joystick? I hope manufacturers will be more inspired to find another joystick design. A shame!!! http://perso.wanadoo.fr/stf06/mobiledreams...sm/DSC00141.JPG
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Just a little bit too big me thinks... just a smidgen... Hmmm Anyway (ignoring the fact that Intel are never actually going to produce that phone, therefore invalidating all style/production comments) that "joystick" looks like the Nokia NaviRoller that I had on my 7110 - not especially handy for games (apart from Snake) but bloody excellent for use with a phone!!! Oh the days of touch typing SMSs on my 7110 using both thumbs on the keys AND the NaviRoller!!! :-D
Guest sebset Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 For me it looks like the roller in use on Japanese i-mode phones.
Guest yatpeak Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I think that it looks terrible. The SPV's much better. :) Wyatt
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 That pic fits nicely on my 21" monitor @ 1600x1200 res ;p Back on topic the only way i can see it working is if the roller's surround is a 4-way button. *shrugs*
