Currently have my G300. First Android. Happy enough with it. Haven't rooted it but I will when I get the time.

I have amassed 1000 Vodafone Cherry Points over time. Online, Vodafone offer a new G510 for 1000 points plus €50.

Given that money is very tight, I shouldn't be considering this but I am :)

Would you upgrade? Is it an upgrade?

Thanks for the answers. I think I will get it. I'll still have my trusty G300 in reserve if I have any problems.

Wish those who voted no could have given a reason though!

For another €40 you could get a significantly better phone - e.g. the same Haier W910 that I got recently for around €90 from DealsPrime.

I'm sure that there are other options.

But since money is tight I presume that €50 is your limit in which case, if you need a new phone, get it.

But if you can hold off, save up and get something better in the new year you should consider that.

I'd imagine that there are better value networks than Vodafone to be on too but I don't know where you are located...

Actually, Dalyer, I've been meaning to ask you specifically about that phone since I saw you posted about it recently in the Chinese Phones thread.

Is the Haier W910 your main phone? How does it compare to the G300 in terms of bulk and weight? I can see the specs are pretty good. Would it need a protective case/gel cover or anything or is it good as it is? How long did it take to get delivered?

As regards this post's topic, yeah, the point is that I don't REALLY need a new phone but I can get this one for €50. My G300 is working fine now (except I can't get the LED notifications back on as previously mentioned, going to return it to Vodafone because I don't think they have worked since the camera fault was fixed)

As regards Vodafone, I usually topup by 20, get the free texts and 150mb of net and when that is finished I just run down the balance for a while. It usually lasts over a month - 6 weeks depending. I have WiFi most places I am so I have access to the online texts plus Viber and WhatsApp. So I'm spending less that 100 a year on my phone fees at the moment which I think is pretty good.

I'm still on the G300 (running GB superslim) but am due to shift over to the W910 real soon now and give the G300 to my gf. But I haven't done much with the W910 yet. I did install this ROM which looks good/clean/stable:

There's not much in the way of custom ROMs. The default Qihoo 360 ICS ROM that came on mine was no use to me - too much Chinese stuff and I wanted a cleaner Android experience. Some W910s come preinstalled with a cleaner JB 4.1.2 ROM - possibly the same one as above.

I haven't weighed my phones (yet! :D) but the G300 is supposed to be 140g while the W910 is supposed to be 225g. I really can't tell the difference in the hand. My G300 has one of those S line cases so feels a bit bulkier than a "nude" :) G300 and while the W910 is obviously a bigger phone it feels slimmer than the G300 with the case. If I get a chance I'll take a pic side by side for comparison purposes.

I'll probably not bother with a case for the W910. One advantage of cheapo phones is that you don't get too precious about them! :D

I got mine from DealsPrime for c. €90 (with a discount I think) and it took about a month to arrive.

BTW - if Vodafone is the right tariff for your needs then fair enough. :)

Definitely interested in seeing some photos comparing the two phones. Also, when you were buying this phone, was it the best choice in the value for money/performance criteria? Were there any other ones which were close?

I see that phone available now for about €95 so that's a pretty good price.

I'll try to take some pics anon...

At the time it was a bit cheaper than most of the MediaTek MTK6589 quad core SoC phones but the cheaper dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A had some features that I liked and which meant that performance might be comparable or maybe even better - e.g. dual Krait v quad Cortex-A7, higher clock speeds, better GPU, LPDDR2, better GPS (?)  etc. Search the Chinese phone thread for "Haier" and you will find some useful info.

You should be able to find a discount code to get a bit more off the price. If you can't then post back with details of the site and I'll see what I can do.
