I cant connect to the internet or anything, do you have to sign up for WAP? Should it just connect or is it well stupid for PAYG users?

orange people said it might be the sim card. it may be too old to do this sort of thing. if you are registered you can get an upgrade but you are better off phoning them. my sim can handle wap but not internet. gprs is not available for pay as you go.

BUT, you don't actually NEED GPRS to connect to the internet. Ring whatever the PAYG equivalent of 156 is, and they should be able to read the settings to you to set up your SPV's internet connection via CSD. Useage won't be cheap, but... Note that you can reach WAP via the GPRS or CSD networks. Bottom line, you're almost certainly better off as a pay-monthly customer if you've got an SPV. The bummer is... you CANNOT switch from a PAYG account to "pay monthly" AND keep your existing phone. The workaround is to sign up for a the cheapest phone contract you can find (i.e. get a "free" phone) and then swap the SIMs over. Orange WILL permit that - in fact it happens quite a lot. You'll wind up with the "new" phone on PAYG, and the SPV on contract.

cpt_ndy heres a guide, i just compiled it really...

1. ring 07973100451

2. select option 2 for grps and wap

3. select option 1 for gprs and wap enquiries

4. follow on phone instructions

5. when you finally get to an operator ask if they can enable the mobile data (thanks Paul) onto your sim card. Thats all i did... they update your sim card with txt msgs (quote gprs and csd)

6. DO NOT open the sim update unless you have the passcode to accept the authentication from mouse2mobile.com

anything else ill add later...

As I recall you CAN get GPRS on PAYG, but it's a new development- like as from January this year. I doubt that of the roughly 12m PAYG Orange customers, more than a handful have asked about it, so it's understandable that whoever you talked to didn't know. (That it was available, or even what GPRS is!)

ok, just to clear a few things up..

1 GRPS is available on PAYG, hasnt been available for long though

2 If you want to use it, call 451 choose option 2 and ask for the sim to be checked for the GPRS package (wont cost to have it put on), then ask for the settings to be sent to the phone... why not have WAP and GRPS settings sent?

3 go buy a PAYG sim card, register it to the SPV and you have a PAYM and PAYG sim you can swap around for the SPV, although too much swapping wears out the sim

4 why not try the ORANGE ACCESS PACK. Free unlimited GRPS AND WAP for 3 months, after that go for PAY AS YOU USE
