Power button problems in the past (if able to root)

I am not able to root but i have managed to find a way by using the proximity sensor. I used this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree . What it does is use the proximity sensor to determine whether the phone is in pocket, it locks the phone then when you take it out it automatically wakes the device. You can also put the phone face down to lock the screen.

I've tried them before but gave up due to the battery drain. Your experience may be different of course but it was too big a drawback for me personally. The NFC method doesn't drain the battery at all and also (surprisingly, now I think about it) works in airplane mode as well.

I have had to swap to my old slip case mind you because the flip case was too thick to work with the tags. I've put a sticky tag on the front of it and it works a treat with no downsides.
