where to download free apk files?

Where can I download free apk files from safely? I've done Google searches but I'm not sure what sites to trust.. Just to let you know I am not on about pirating paid apps, I want the free apps that isn't compatible with my device. I've tried market helper but that only has a few devices you can change to, thanks for the help :-)

xda has a few  threads that have collections of apk`s for people who cant access the play store.

There are 165 apps and 200 games in this thread  http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1213454 to get you started.

xda is one of the biggest and most respected mobile dev sites and is very trustworthy.
