Clear out old IMAP Messages?

I only want the last day's IMAP messages to appear, but they don't seem

to be disappearing from my Inbox several days after I downloaded them.

How do I get them to vanish? I have "Get Today's Messages" set in IMAP4

options. If I delete the items from my local Inbox, will it delete them

from the server? I don't want messages to be deleted from server.

The option only involves what messages are got from the server, not what messages are displayed.

Deleting them from your phone will delete them from the server next time you connect. I think if you delete them from the deleted items the it won't delete them from the server.
