Guest imt21 Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Has anyone else experience problems printing after installing ActiveSync 3.6? Since installing I can no longer print from any application. I get a GPE in EPSPMGR4 and the message: Error while spooling to "" Unable to create a new spool job I have tried uninstalling ActiveSync and I can print again fine but as soon as I reinstall I get the same problem. I don't really fancy uninstalling ActiveSync every time I want to print. I'm running Windows 98 SE and have a Epson Stylus Colour 400. (Yes I know I should really update both). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Are you using a USB hub? AS doesn't always work well with hubs, one of my PC's @ home is running Win98 OSR1; ActiveSync+USB hub = No dice. Without the hub it's OK, if a little weird at times. Maybe you could try Epson's support site - it's pretty good: http://selfservice.epson-europe.com/start_eng.jsp http://www.epson.co.uk/support/ HTH
Guest imt21 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Yes I am connected thru a USB hub. Will try it without. Thanks
Guest imt21 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Tried a direct connection to the PC but still no luck. Looks like it's the ActiveSync s/w though as I still have the problem with the cradle completely disconnected. Sent an email to Epson support. I'll see if they come back with anything. Cheers.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Just a thought - have you tried reinstalling the printer/checking for updated drivers at epson's website?
Guest imt21 Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Thanks Chris, Yep - that was the first thing I tried.
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Yep - that was the first thing I tried. Blimey. Have you tried removing/reinstalling your USB-controller(s)? Windows98 is *so* damn cranky with USB.... What chipset sre you running? Bit of an esoteric question, I know, but the simple solutions haven't worked so it could be a question of d/l-ing updated USB controller drivers or some such nonsense...
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 I never could coax WinME to use USB properly on my old mboard :)
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 WinME That's enough swearing, thanks Mono  WinME? I mean...why, MS, why? Seriously, though - *all* Windows USB-support was awful pre-XP. Even my PC at work with Win200 Pro is a little weird with USB. I don't dare installing ActiveSync on it....
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted February 22, 2003 Report Posted February 22, 2003 Heheh, as blasphemous as it sounds, XP is the best OS i've ever used for GUI-orientated use. Stable as a rock and has a drive DB dating back nearly a decade thansk to its 2gig basic instal ;p
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Yep - I use XP Pro here at home and it really is a cracking piece of s/w. In the 8 months I've been using it I've not had a single crash that couldn't be recovered from.
