Guest TooMuch2AM Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 There's an excellent (and unbiased) review of the P800 here... http://www.ocworkbench.com/2003/sonyericss...son/p800/p1.htm
Guest jmrodriguez Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 P800 is already selling over in the Philippines..... $760 USD SIM free. :)
Guest kingdom master Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 i already have a p800, i got one a few weeks ago. im rather pleased with it, but im yet to find a forum like this to help with development.i hope paul will add a forum for it here. kingdom
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 You bet! If I ever get a P800 for myself... :-| P
Guest Firaas Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Cool - the P800 has Radio Off (or "Flight Mode") and pictures against contacts - nice review, TooMuch2AM
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 SPV has 'Radio Off'? I have played with a P800, I wasn't hugely impressed.... P
Guest Firaas Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 "]SPV has 'Radio Off'? Yeah but it's the only phone I've ever heard of that has. What's the screen like? Compared to the 7650 on the review, it looks pretty rubbish - but is it a lot worse compared to the SPV?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Much better than the 7650, as good as the SPV I think? Hopefully be able to compare em side by side soon! P
Guest NoBackUp Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 I have a P800 ...think its [email protected] eats the Bat.... was a SE/// fan...(t68i) but this is real poor...now use a XDA 64mb...cool looking forward to a Smartphone...(Unlocked and Cert Free !) D
Guest v_patel1 Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 my mate has one he got it from dubai a couple of weeks ago, and he says SPV is better, the p800 isnt tht good, and it isnt as big as ppl make it out to be
Guest kingdom master Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 Agreed the phone is buggy, yes very slow i dont agree with the battery though mine lasts atleast 4 days. however i do prefer my spv, although im alittle pissed that my spv screen and plastic surround is scratched. the p800, is to big. but i still like it, i hope we can get some development going for it. what would be good is to get a beta testing forum going, for people to offer to beta test and comment etc.... and intergrate development and software forums.. kingdom.:-)
Guest Yousaf Posted February 20, 2003 Report Posted February 20, 2003 im definately getting one! well make sure u have the latest version of the software! lol we all know (well spv owners at least) of how early versions of software can be buggy! it seems to be the unfair price payed by us early adopters/gadget freaks! i think the latest phone firmware is R!D id would be terrific for a p800 version of modado! i already have a collection of software for it! lol opera browser and a sega master system and game boy emulator with a few roms :)
Guest SirGaz Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 id would be terrific for a p800 version of modado! i already have a collection of software for it! lol opera browser and a sega master system and game boy emulator with a few roms :) Not that I don't believe you but how come you have so much software for a phone that hasn't even been released yet? Is the development community THAT GOOD!!
Guest yatpeak Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 A lot of people seem to have a problem with the speed of the P800, I find that it's quite quick, and I've yet to see one freeze... Wyatt
Guest Oakley Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 One of my colleagues just (Friday, Feb 21 @ 1;15pm GMT) went over to an Orange shop (in London) and picked up his P800 (he'd pre-ordered).... Now he's spending the afternoon figuring out the few things the P800 has that my SPV doesn't - so that he can tell me how wonderful it is... :?
Guest spacemonkey Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Yep, it's got loads of features... it can hold down paper in high winds, it can fill holes in brick walls, it can run proprietry software. What more do you need...
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Incidentally, the Orange Shop in Tunbridge Wells has confirmed stock... P
Guest glynton Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Not that I don't believe you but how come you have so much software for a phone that hasn't even been released yet? Is the development community THAT GOOD!! From what i hear there's gonna be little point developing software for the P800 because there's no room to put it all... it comes with 12MB internal which is used up completly, and the DUO sticks only go up to 16MB. So if people want music or media on the phone... they won't be able to have extra software!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Can we confirm that it doesn't require app certificates? P
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Have had the P800 in Denmark for a while now (over a month). It's brilliant, really brilliant. Don't doubt it, this thing is a serious threat to the SPV (despite it's size, awful quality). It's got the software and it's not SIM locked by default. I'll buy one, no doubt about that (if I can't get the boss to pay for it). The SPV will still be the phone I *always* have with me, though. Having used a P800 quite a bit these past few weeks I can't help thinking that if Orange persist with app-certification, the P800's going to stomp the SPV into nothingness. I've contacted (OK, attempted to contact) Orange DK about the app-cert stuff, they really don't give a s***. Unreal. They almost don't deserve the custom. Sure, people whine about the P800's horrid keys, stick-pointy-thing and small-capacity MemorySticks, but the crux of the matter is that the phone is functionally better than the SPV in many respects. OK, I will have both so the argument's somewhat academic for me, but the point is made....
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 A lot of people seem to have a problem with the speed of the P800, I find that it's quite quick, and I've yet to see one freeze... The P800's problem is that it suffers a speed reduction for every app that gets installed, just like the SPV. Can of course be solved by saving to the memory card (à la SPV) but with only 16MB MemStix commonly available, that's not especially realistic....but it's only a matter of time, you can bet SE wil get bigger MemStix to the market ASAP
Guest Chris b.a.r.f. Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 "]Can we confirm that it doesn't require app certificates? Seems to be a bit of a grey area, this - no-one I know has had problems installing anything on the P800, but there have apparently been rumours of the possibility of App-cert on the P800. I'm not sure myself, I spent a long time searching for info on this without really returning any concrete results. A mate's P800 is certainly not app-cert enabled, though. Edit: On reflection, maybe it could have something to do with where one buys one's P800 - I've only played with non-SIM locked P800s. Maybe the SIM-locked ones are also app-cert jobs?
