Tesco Huawei U8666-1 phone storage space is low

My youngest had this phone for xmas and basically cant install any apps as the internal memory is so low, can anyone help with a simple guide to root and change the system partition size please. Not bothered about a new rom or anything just want to enable him to install more than a couple of apps. Think its got about 170mb of internal space to install apps which is basically all used up by system apps and updates, thanks for any help, hes got a 4gb sd card so if i can use that as the internal memory it would be great thanks. It isnt rooted so any guide needs to start from the beginning. Cheers.
