I spent about an hour on the Phone trying to persuade various different people that there really shouldnt be loads of dust in the top left corner of my screen... finally got through to a very helpfull guy who agreed with me although he had to put the replacement reason down as a "screen fault"...cos get this.... They have never heard of people getting dust inside the screen before....LOL...

Also everyone i spoke to really tried to dodge the issue if i mentioned this forum..... odd

Wonder if ill get an updated phone ?!?

ill let you know...

Do you think OCS have been given a right royal roasting for mentioning MoDaCo.com?

Sad really...

Let's hope T-Mobile are more interested in us when they launch the Tanager eh!

Not as far as my contacts are aware (and they WOULD be aware!) but my departure was noticed, and quietly discussed, and the word "Modaco" mentioned in connection with it....

I rang OCS last week about all the dust in my SPV, and after a couple of minutes on hold while they "thought about it" they agreed for a replacement no problem.

The one funny thing was they asked if I knew how the dust was getting into the phone !!!!

Its worthwhile adding that I havn't had a crash, problem or anything on the new one, all of which I was getting on my first ...

They referred one of our phones to tech support, who didn't reply.

When we rang back, the OCS guy replaced the phone to save the hassle of waiting...

I'm actually getting fairly good communication gonig with the tech team. It's just a shame they're a bunch of idiots that don't know what they are talking about....

So if I decide to argue for a replacement coz of dust and get a yes. What are next steps? How long will it take and how should I deal with it then?

Are you on care?

If so, you'll get a handset the next day, and have the choice of three timeslots.

A TNT guy in an Orange jacket turns up and gives you a new handset (just the handset), and you give him your old one...

Not sure if you'll get a replacement without Care...

yeah mine arrives tomorrow morning between 9-12am

as for the modaco thing...that was truely strange....it was as if they didnt want to acknowledge the site existed...but it is sad when a user group knows more about the product than a tech support team...oh well...time to back up the phone

I have O. care. Do you know what (approx) the timeslots are?

I think they're:

9-12am

12-6pm

6-10pm

Nice theory, but sadly not backed up by reality. OCS don't have the AUTHORITY to replace phones without either an OK from ISAAC (the diagnostics software) or Tech Support (not to be confused with "156". YOU can contact 156, you can NOT contact TS) It's like saying "the lad who works in the phone shop on Saturdays decided that I could have a brand new replacement". OCS have a "discretionary budget" of.... £30. That is, they can make decisions on amounts of £30 - or less - without asking for permission. Over that (and an SPV is worth a tad more than that!) it cannot be done without referring to higher authority. Could it be that they simply hadn't yet checked their (internal) email (called "actions") and the OK from TS had already come through, but hadn't been noticed or acted upon?

Might've been transferred at some point in the conversation, I didn't finish the call.

I do believe, however, that I have had at least one phone replaced after just speaking to Business Support?

May have been someone else though, as she ran through a diagnostic.

I happen to have a vacuum cleaner which can blow as well as suck.

EDIT: [Looking for a girlfriend with similar attributes]

What's the optimum date to complain about dust under the screen before my SPV is replaced with a Tanager rather than another SPV (under Orange Care)?

:) ;) :D

EDIT 2: Seriously, I've had my SPV since mid-Dec and have been abroad with it twice. It never leaves my side/desk and when carried it was originally always in it's cheapo plastic case for the 1st month, thereafter in a Piel Frama leather one (€30 direct is still a rip-off, but better than £30 in UK).

I have no dust problems whatsoever, and can only assume there's a lot of scruffy users out there :!:

It looks more likley poor build quality as I keep my phone with me at work

and I've just spent the last month ripping down plasterboard at work.

And I STILL use the origional case. :)

I also find that I don't have a problem with dust. I haven't had a speck of dust under my screen. Then again, maybe I'm just a wee bit over-protective of my SPV...

My one seems to have a bit of dust under the top of the screen now, and also (annoyiingly) a small hair!

It's not enough to annoy me yet, so maybe when the tanager is out I can try and wrangle for one of those as a replacement :)

Mine was fine until I went on holiday to a particularly dusty country, the replacements have been fine...

I appreciate care for the phone and sh*t, but personally I think it IS a TOOL!

[PHILOSOPHY: You don't store a hammer in a protective casing (to protect hammer that is, not you/ur kid from it. lol) and I know you don't nail things in the wall with ur SPV or hit ur sis/bro/dad with it either. :)

But seriously, if it's a tool it must be able to put up with my use - T28 lasted almost a year in my hands, but a flip on those was generally faulty. Then Siemens - industrial type heavy duty brick was ok untill half its screen went black (1/2 year) and I still cannot kill those Motorolas (eternal phones), Siemens 25 (my friend did that 4 me) and T20 is just another brick that is tooooo damn slow for me to even bother.]

THE POINT: A phone must survive fair use - that is pockets, wet (beer) tables, ash, 3ft falls (2.5 if concrete), pockets with coins and keys, heat/cold, snow and rain (min exposure) and your boss's forhead (this is the dominating factor)!! Now that it is an SPV it must also survive walls since there is a tendency of these phones flying towards them. Oh yes, girlfriens are in the list too.
