Unlocked or not?

I just unlocked my SPV by following the tips on this forum, or so I thought.

Everything seemed to work ok, I checked the changes to the names of the links I changed, ok. I then went straight for DoomSPV, I had no problems (just can't see the point it plays so bad). I then went for Tetris, still ok, then Sptaskmgr, again no probs.

My troubles have been with RemoteDSP, Odysseydemo1, and Smartcheckersdemo, all of these will not install from the PC. The phone returns to the homescreen durring install, and when I try extracting the cab file and installing from the phone, it says the software is not certificated.

Whats going on, can anyone shed any light please.

Try taking a look at the two files you modified on the phone. Make sure they both contain the same values as specified in the description of the hack. If not, redo the whole thing from the beginning (remember to backup everything etc).

If not, has your phone ever crashed and you've had to pull the battery out to switch it off? If the phone locks up or loses power during a write operation to it's internal storage, there is a chance that there will be corruption somewhere. That could cause all sorts of random mayhem. The simplest solution would be a hard-reset followed by a repeat of the hack. Again, backup first!

Also, verify that you can still remove and reinstall some unsigned applications at the moment, like the ones that worked before. You may find that the certification has become activated and that's all that's wrong.

So, it looks like you may have a hard-reset ahead regardless of the cause. You didn't mention installing the Registy Editor, or one of the file explorer ones. You can't do any fixing and tweaking if you can't install these essential tools for due to the current certification issue.

Unless anyone else can come up with some ideas...?

I checked the file, and yes they have gone back to the original state, how Im not sure.

I had done nothing unusual and the phone hadn't crashed.

Is it pos Orange has got a way of changing the settings back?

Anyway I will try again as it was fun while it worked.

Oh and I didn't use Orange Backup/Restore.

No Orange do not have a way of changing your settings but

it has been posted several times before that sometimes the phone can

revert back to a certified state.

Yep, my phone performed some bizarre self-surgery the other day. Reverted back to old state, re-certified itself, but kept things like installed apps and shortcuts.

I've seen this posted elsewhere on the forum but have searched and can't find what string it was in.

Had done an ISPM back-up and tried to re-flash but it didn't work!

Went through the whole process again and I was surprised it only took me about half an hour to have the SPV uncert and spiffy again.

The files will go back to the original state on reboot (as they are not in the IPSM dir - anything not in this dir will revert). This is normal. However these files are only read after a reboot or after something becomes corrupted, which is why de-certification normal stays even after a reboot.

I agree with the others and think some sort of corruption happened which caused these files to be reprocessed. There are a few reported posts of this happening and it happened to me twice. E.g.:

Cheers for the advice, its nice to know that I’m not the only one, so I’ll suppose I will have to do the damn thing again.

Just one question though, what is the best way of restoring paid for products like All-explorer, after a hard reset?

Thanks all.

Well I done it, after about twelve attempts I finally got it unlocked and everything seems to be fine.

Just a few points about the whole unlocking process though.

Why do you need to wait until the blue Windows screen appears before putting the phone in the cradle? It seemed to me that the time that it finely worked was when the files were copied across to the phone before the phone had actually fully booted, and because it takes about 20 seconds for the phone to sync, it doesn’t leave much time for the transfer.

A little tip for knowing when the phone is ready to copy the files over is to wait until the green spinning sync icon appears on ActiveSync indicating the phone is connecting. Then with the altered file already copied (if you have any sense), right click somewhere in the already opened explorer window where the original files came from (you should have left it open if you have followed the unlock guide on this forum). You will notice that the paste function is greyed out, this is because the phone is not able to receive the files yet, but if you left click then right click repeatedly, you will catch the earliest opportunity, because the paste function will become available as soon as the phone is ready.

I think this gives you a greater chance of success; well it did for me at least.

Overall I still think the process needs a better explanation and if I can get any time at soon I’ll have ago myself. Better still, if someone can create a flash program this would be better.

Anyway what do I know, I’m still a newbie with huge arms. :)

THe only reason I haven't kept the spv unlocked is that when I unlock it I lose the ability to send or reply with sms.

Can't they force policies over the air?

Can't remember where I heard about this, but it was a possibility...
