[HOW-TO] Change Open C / Kis 3 splash screen

Now time for the most important thing on any device - splash screen. :P

How to change splash screen:
1. Download kis3-splash-flash.zip
2. Download/create a splash.img and replace the empty template inside the kis3-splash-flash.zip with your file (drag&drop with your favorite zip tool)
3. Boot into ClockWorkMod recovery and install kis3-splash-flash.zip

Optionally you could use fastboot (fastboot flash splash splash.img).

How to create your own splash screen:
1. Create a 480x800 bitmap in e.g. GIMP image editor
2. Flip image vertically
3. Save as 24-bit windows bitmap (RGB888)

Bytesize (1,152,054 bytes) doesn't exactly match ZTE splash.img (1,153,024 bytes) but it looks like ZTE's splash.img only has zeros as a footer.

No, not all ZTE devices have the same type of splash image and my flashable zip won't necessarely work on other devices. E.g. my previous ZTE device also had battery images that are displayed during offmode charging embedded in the splash.img.

I happened to have one Apex2 stock ROM on my HDD and it uses same type of splash image as this. Looks like the only differences are that it's 480x854 and not flipped vertically.

other question: your APEX2 image is stock... is valid for flash in any terminal?

It's stock Norway, generic build. You'd likely still need to use the correct version of stock recovery to install it. Otherwise should be good for all Apex2 devices AFAICT.

I can quickly check what Apex2 firmware there's available on ZTE site. I haz tools. :P

Btw after flashing a splash its noch centered on screen it seems... is 480x800 the correct resolution for the splash?

For reference: the "Do not write color space information" option in Gimp's export dialog needs to be enabled.

Maybe you could re-upload splash-zte2.img, it seems to be down.

WTF, no idea what happened to it. :o Terrible file hosting service if you can't trust them to keep your files safe. I moved all splash files to Mediafire now.

Yes, you can use the flashable zip from the OP. Just use splash.img specifically for Apex 2.

Thank you :D as you said earlier...

I happened to have one Apex2 stock ROM on my HDD and it uses same type of splash image as this. Looks like the only differences are that it's 480x854 and not flipped vertically.

Edit: I flash the splash but appears flipped, so the image must be flipped before be flashed in the terminal...

Edit 2: the trick don´t work, the splash appears flipped vertically again... help Konstat!!!

IDK, to me it didn't appear to flipped in any direction. GIMP opened it straight up. Take your favorite hex editor and see if there's some header/footer in the original splash.img that needs to be copied over.

I found the solution: The image must be flipped vertically, as in the Open C. Works perfect :D strange isn´t?
