Guest Mark_He Posted October 12, 2014 Report Posted October 12, 2014 Has anyone had success playing encoded videos e.g. x264 codec and similar? I used to get decent results using MXplayer or VLC beta on my previous tablet (a cheap Chinese version that should be worse than the Hudl2), but now I suspect that poor x86 support from those players is letting it down. I've downloaded the x86 codec for MX and played with the various performance options, but results range from good to appalling depending on the video, with stuttering or full crashes. I've also tried dime other players that claimed x86 support, but no dice. Any advice gratefully received, as I'm very happy with my Hudl2 apart from this.
Guest Simon O Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 Try a nightly build of VLC for Intel to see if it's any better? http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-x86/VLC-debug-20141013-1646.apk

I'm running the nightly anyway just to see how it does.
Guest comicbookguy Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 just ordered one for the inlaws for xmas...anybody tried to run XBMC/Kodi player on it?
Guest nybor Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 just ordered one for the inlaws for xmas...anybody tried to run XBMC/Kodi player on it? Yes, I'm running Kodi 14.0 alpha 4. It works fine. Runs fast and video playback is good. (HD playback on the LAN using SMB is hopeless, but that's the fault of SMB. UPnP playback is fine.) However, the issue with XBMC/Kodi on the Hudl2 will be storage space, especially with Kitkat's restrictions on the SD card. It should be possible to move thumbnail images to the SD card, but even with them out of the way, the userdata folder can grow to a couple of GB.

It's not really going to be used for a massive library (just the contents of the SD card or maybe USBOTG if it's supported), but the front end is easy to for them to navigate, Yatse works well as a remote and i know the whole setup inside out for tech support over the phone ;) Edited October 22, 2014 by comicbookguy

Guest comicbookguy Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 USB OTG is supported. cool!
Guest DaveGriff Posted October 22, 2014 Report Posted October 22, 2014 OTG is supported, but I can't get asynchronous USB audio to work with my DACs so YMMV depending on what you want to do.
