Guest N3M35I5 Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 sorry to clog up the thread, I've just rooted my hudl 2 (epic btw) kudo's to the dev. all worked flawless. It's been since the ZTE Blade i rooted a android device. i sadly went to apple but i returned with vengence for the hudl 2 lol. If there is a new update for the hudl can i just update without worry of bricking, Also will it kill the root? (i'm assuming it will) But thought i'd ask thanks in advance, and it's great to be back at modaco :D
Guest Mark_He Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 See the rooting thread - there are definite Issues with OTA, don't touch them for now.
Guest Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) It's not clear cut by a long chalk. Sometimes dependent on the rooting method all that happens is you could well loose root (no xxxx Sherlock I hear you all shout). But many people forget, once they have root, it's 'then their actions with root' that can cause the OTA update issues. For example: 1. Rooted hudl, only apps disabled not deleted - probably will pass OTA integrity checks and update as proved with previous hudl1. 2. Rooted hudl, apps deleted, key system files changed - probably will fail OTA integrity checks and may lead to creating an update system loop for the user, as proved with previous hudl1. This is one of the reasons why many people are advising against 'deleting' instead of 'disabling' apps. You don't need root to remove the Tesco stuff just change the launcher and if you still want to do more, just disable the apps you don't want Personally for me, having root gives the ability to add software configuration I can't do without it i.e. hostname, NTP, backup configurations - not deleting some installed apps that are easily disabled. [17/10/14] The current small (9MB) OTA update appears to have been pulled by Tesco. Edited October 18, 2014 by Guest
