Guest listentochaos Posted December 13, 2014 Report Posted December 13, 2014 If you're rooted what DPI setting do you find the best?
Guest Posted December 14, 2014 Report Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) I've set mine to 240 as this is one of the "generalized" DPI settings as documented here https://developer.android.com/guide/practices/screens_support.html and https://www.captechconsulting.com/blog/steven-byle/understanding-density-independence-android (Sent via mobile hence sloppy formatting) Edited December 14, 2014 by Guest
Guest seanspotatobusiness Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 Does the improve performance/battery life? I'd imagine it can't look quite right.
Guest Rusty! Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) It's just the equivalent of bumping up the screen resolution on your PC. Also, you don't need to root to change you DPI adb shell wm density xxx Edited December 15, 2014 by Rusty!

Guest Posted December 15, 2014 Report Posted December 15, 2014 It's more suttle than that - you always have the same screen resolution, but the relative size of the icons / text etc are either increased or reduced. Reducing the DPI setting enables smaller icons etc i.e. more can be seen on the screen. With a high resolution 'small' screen you can slightly reduce icon detail etc (based on your perception / preference) but generate increased useable screen area. Hence a reduction in the default DPI down to a very usable 240 has increased my effective useable screen size - although the overall screen resolution has never changed. Similar results (for on-screen icons) can also be gained by customisable launchers like Apex Launcher - where you can 'scale' on-screen icon sizes - but this won't adjust text and menu sizes etc. :ninja:
