EE to offer customers free Power Bars

EE are set to launch a great promotion in the UK that gives all mobile customers a free 2600mAh battery pack from the 16th April 2015. The 'Power Bar' is a tiny lipstick style battery pack designed to give you a boost of power whilst on the go.

Whilst the capacity of the pack isn't huge (2600mAh is lower than many flagship devices), EE have a trick up it's sleeve. Simply take your empty EE Power Bar to any EE store and they will exchange it for a fully charged one completely free. It's this unique offer that makes the Power Bar a lot more attractive to general users. EE have previously run similar promotions at music festivals across the UK and, whilst they haven't officially announced anything for 2015, one would assume they would do the same this year. Great for students!

EE are set to launch the promotion on the 16th of April.

Power Bars will be made available to all EE Customers with a 30 day, 12, 18 or 24 month plan, whether for mobile or fixed line and broadband services. Pay As You Go customers can also participate, however, before qualifying for the offer they must have been with EE for at least three months.

To obtain the free to hire Power Bar, mobile customers must text POWER to 365. Broadband customers must text JOIN plus your EE landline number to 60005 and follow the instructions provided. Texts cost 35p. This mechanism is required to enable EE to verify the customer is an existing customer; and provide a redemption code to EE retail agents when collecting the Power Bar.

Non-EE customers participate in EE Power, to join they just have to pay £20

EE Power Bar specifications:

  • Capacity = 2600mah – which is enough to charge a typical smartphone once
  • The EE Power Bar is rechargeable and has a guaranteed life of 500 charges
  • It features charging indicator lights that will show how much charge is in the power bar
  • It features an LED torch
  • It includes a micro USB lead that will be used to charge bar but also to charge the phone form the bar
  • It takes approximately 4 hours to charge the power bar from flat to full

Not sure it will be a big thing, but it certainly looks like a great idea.  Lots of us have something similar to this, but the idea of having one that you can swap at any EE store for a fully charged one is a good added benefit.

If I was on EE, I'd get one.

Definitely worth doing. I'm tempted to stick a few quid on the EE "Dan and Phil" SIM I picked up before Christmas so I can order a second charger

Got to get one for those unfortunate moments in town when I'm out of charge.

Okay, I have my number to pick one up. I'll nip in tomorrow.

Got it today. was told on Friday that they were out and wouldn't have any until Monday and they would ring me. Happened to be in town on Saturday and noticed someone with a fresh bag checking a power bar. Nipped in and yes they had them in already. Also it takes a while as they want to sell you a contract or broadband.

Features an LED torch? No it doesn't, it has a bit of plastic that opens up to the status indicators but it definitely isn't a torch. The indicator lights are brighter.

Quickly press the power button twice and it'll switch the torch on. Another two presses switch to flash, and another two switch the torch off.

Cheers Simon. Read instructions? Never. If you can't work it out without then it's a usability fail.

Had one flashing it's torch at me today. Cheers for the info, though I was hitting it twice it kept flashing the torch. Swapped it anyway so I'll try it with the new one.
