Guest ViPaSoft Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Has anyone tried tethering a 3G Dongle using an OTG cable? If so, what dongle and did it work or not? Thanks in advance.
Guest aerostar Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Yes...and no it did not work, dongle was not recogonised, tried 3 different ones, apparently kernal is missing a driver. Original Hudl 1 did work IF it was rooted and a PPP app installed. HUDL1 worked also with a USB to ethernet adapter, H2 no way.
Guest ViPaSoft Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Ok thanks aerostar, won't bother buying a dongle then. I believe tethering to mobile works, but don't know if my mobile operator allows it. Will have to check.
Guest warwound Posted April 11, 2015 Report Posted April 11, 2015 Have you looked at a mifi device? An EE Osprey on PAYG with 6GB of data included is currently £50 at Carphone Warehouse: http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband/mobile-broadband/buy/ee-payg-osprey-mifi-6gb-emp04-pp That 6GB of date is valid for 3 months. You can get an EE data ony SIM with 6GB of data valid for 3 months from Ebay for around £18. It's seems to be cheaper to get a replacement SIM every 3 months rather than topping up an existing SIM. The Osprey will work with your Hudl2 and any other wifi devices you have.
Guest Mark_He Posted April 11, 2015 Report Posted April 11, 2015 (edited) Good advice. I tried and failed to get a dongle working for my Dad's Hudl2, and in the end sent him off to swap it for a mifi version instead. He seems quite content with the results. Personally I use my phone as a wireless hotspot when needed. Edited April 11, 2015 by Mark_He
