Guest jpp12 Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Hi Just got Hudl2; pain to link to my WiFi; turned off & on again & it works... Anyway, I thought I'd try iPlayer; It asked me for a Google account or invited me to create one. Why? Can I by-pass this and just watch TV? Thanks Jan
Guest pudpoh Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Because in order to download any apps from the play store of which iPlayer is one of many you need to have a google account. Just set one up it only takes a few minutes and you will then be able to use your device to its full potential.
Guest jpp12 Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am not worried about the time it may take to create an account, I am ust puzzled why it is a requirement. I don't recall being asked for a Google account when I set up iPlayer on my desktop or laptops... Jan
Guest CPN200 Posted April 10, 2015 Report Posted April 10, 2015 Your device is an Android device courtesy of Google. For any Android device to work fully, a Google account is required. It's nothing to do with iPlayer or the BBC. It's to do with the fact that all the apps that run on your device to be able to "do" anything (and the BBC iPlayer App for Android is one of them) are downloaded from the App store which just happens to be the Google Play Store (to give it its full title). The iPlayer application on your desktop is a PC application. Nothing to do with Google. There are many benefits to having a Google account when you have a tablet. The Play Store is only one... Complete backup of all your contacts and Android settings, photos etc are others...
