Guest Jinjur Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 So, was that just to add Kobo and Wuaki? Is there a list of bug fixes and/or changes? J
Guest crusader58 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 So, was that just to add Kobo and Wuaki? Is there a list of bug fixes and/or changes? J LOL, so Tesco Techs think adding more bloat is cause for an update...glad I'm rooted and blocked ota's
Guest esc4p3 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Not rooted, just done a check and my HUDL is up to date apparently....not installed an OTA update....
Guest Jinjur Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Not rooted, just done a check and my HUDL is up to date apparently....not installed an OTA update.... Do you have Kobo and Wuaki?
Guest Jinjur Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 I wish i screen grabbed the blurb that preceeded the update.....its did mention "tweaks" and "speed fixes" i think. It didnt mention the crap they installed that i will NEVER use :/
Guest esc4p3 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 I do have Kobo, manually installed by me as part of the Blinkbox Books takeover, not got (and won't use) Wuaki....
Guest Parababble Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Maybe Google Play automatically installed those Tesco app updates as if your other games and updates do normally if set to auto! Thus not a system update, dunno!
Guest Jinjur Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Deffo a 100Mb'ish download....... Not google play mate A
Guest bow9487 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) @jinjur There is a screen-shot of the update "blurb" on the pinned topic near the bottom of page 27. Apart from the two apps mentioned did we all have Spotify pre installed before this update? I have an account and use it on all my devices but cant remember if i installed it or it was pre installed before. Also has anyone noticed a decrease in WiFi speed? mine seems to suck since the update. i haven't done a speed test yet but im getting buffering all the time on it now, not getting it on my other devices and im watching the same things as before. Guest CPN200 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 Err, "page 27" of what? No sign of any kind of update to our two fairly new devices here...
Guest bow9487 Posted April 30, 2015 Report Posted April 30, 2015 (edited) Page 27 of the Pinned topic in the Hudl 2 section, (there is only one Pinned post "How to Root your Hudl 2") Update went from 20150106.154003 to 20150319.222108 It seems to have not been pushed to every device yet. Mine popped up yesterday with the update. It was around 113MB if i remember correctly. After my post #529 mentioning the update you'll see a short while after a few other peoples devices had update notifications. No Root for the update as of yet though, So if you want to/Have Rooted i would keep away. It doesn't seem to have any major updates that would warrant a loss of Root. Hopefully Paul (Or someone else) will have an updated Root Image for the update soon. Edited April 30, 2015 by bow9487
Guest Jinjur Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 Thats right.....only noticed last night that spotify went on as well. Just to clarify, these aren't google play pushes as i cannot uninstall them. They are definitely part of an update. A
Guest pudpoh Posted May 1, 2015 Report Posted May 1, 2015 (edited) Mine downloaded the update a couple of days ago and then got stuck on the checking integrity screen for a couple of hours. I shut it down to reboot and try again and now no update shows up at all. Edited May 1, 2015 by pudpoh
Guest Rocket Posted May 2, 2015 Report Posted May 2, 2015 Not been pushed to me yet. Is there anything to suggest Tesco have had another go at fixing the charging problem or have they convinced theirselves that their last update fixed it when it hasn't?
Guest CPN200 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Both our Hudl2s received the latest update this evening and I can confirm that Spotify went on as well as Kobi and Wuaki...
Guest CPN200 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 Has anyone figured out what else got updated yet?
Guest nybor Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 It's amusing to see that the build date on this release is 19 March. Maybe they have been testing it for six solid weeks without finding a single thing that needed changing (which in my experience of software development is impossible to believe). Or maybe they are just very slow in getting stuff out the door, even though it is finished.
Guest CPN200 Posted May 5, 2015 Report Posted May 5, 2015 It'd be nice if they were a little more transparent about what they were actually doing for sure...
Guest mhardyman Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 After reading this thread,I have decided to use titanium backup to freeze the hudl updates apk. I don't want slower WiFi and more bloatware. I'll update when they release something good
Guest samac Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Has anyone risked trying it on a rooted Hudl2?
Guest crusader58 Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 (edited) I see no point in risking it, as apart from pushing Spotify,Kobo and Wuaki it doesn't seem to offer much in way of improvements or fixes. Also, after much tweaking and disabling of services and apps etc I've finally got my hudl2 running well so it'll take one heck of an OTA to convince me to update. Edited May 6, 2015 by crusader58
Guest QLF Posted May 6, 2015 Report Posted May 6, 2015 Looks like they've deleted the blinkbox apps after Tesco sold / shuttered the company, and replaced with suitable alternatives to male sure no one lost out. Personally not a big deal, and not technically "more" bloat...
Guest esc4p3 Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 Got the update last night. In my case I already had Kobo as I used the £10 free Blinkbox Books credit when I got the HUDL so transferred them to Kobo. This update uninstalled Kobo, so I had to re-download it from the Play store. For me it didn't uninstall Blinkbox Books, although it did let me remove it which it wouldn't before. I already had Spotify and it left that alone and I now have Wuaki which I won't use. I use Blinkbox Music which it must have freshly installed, as when I opened it, it had lost my account details, and yet Blinkbox Movies still had my account details fine. Can't see any other obvious changes. Much ado about nothing :)
Guest speakeasy Posted May 7, 2015 Report Posted May 7, 2015 Can anyone advise me if I will be able to re-root my device if I *do* apply the OTA update. I would like to try the update as my battery life is dreadful (and I occasionally get time glitches). TIA
