Ive done a serch and not really come up with mucu, so Im posting, didnt know weather to post this in here or development section.

But is there a download or way, of getting the characters counter for SMS so you know how many you got left??

also, to save writting another one in begineers section, does anyone know how to memory dump with out turning the phone off, cause some games eat the memory up, and I want to dump it after Ive played

Unfortunately not.

This isn't fixed in the update either.

You can use Task Manager to terminate any programs which you don't need, which subsequently clears out unrequired memory.

By memory dump you obviously mean, clear running apps out of memory (memory dump means save the memory somewhere).

Look in the software section for an app called taskmanager. It will allow you to close apps. Be careful with it, it will also allow you to close items that the phone needs to run such as tray.exe.

As to the counter, it would require a modification to the SMS application. Unfortunately this won't be done by developers here as this app requires privilege and therefore must be Orange signed regardless of whether the phone is unlocked for unpriveleged (games etc) type apps.

edit- damn... got distracted while typing and when I clicked submit someone had beaten me.

Woof, the SMS counter has been brought up many times, so I think you need to search a little better. Basically there isn't one, there won't be one either in the update (if it's the same as the Danish update). Don't know if one one of the developers are working on one though.

The memory dump thing is a little harder. I doubt there is a way as it's a phone after all and not a PC. The best way is to switch the phone off then on again which clears down the memory. Best I can advise.

Is it pretty much fool proof!!!

The unlocking process can be difficult, but as long as you don't switch the phone off while it's doing something, it won't cause any irrepairable damage.

Hi, when it says in the instructions, Change the name of the first browser favourite subtly, does it mean this comman line on the SPV

THIS LINE???

Yeah, the bit where it say "1 Orange" change it to something like "1 Oranges".

The only reason to change this is it gives a visible difference on the phone to make it easy to see if your modified files have been used.

Does it show up on the phone??? Could I change it to O2 as Im running an O2 sim?????

Thanks for all the help by the way, I just dont want to cock it up, only had the phone a day!!!!

These are your default favourites when you open IE. It is simply a link to the Orange SPV site (spv.orange-today.co.uk) and the link will be renamed. Open IE now and you should see that link.

Changing this setting just renames it. This gives you a quick check to see whether you modified setting files were read or whether Orange's one was used if you didn't get the timing just right. You can change it back afterwards.

I see, thanks a lot chaps, will give it a go *gulp*

Beens as Im pretty new to this phone, can you change the O2 signs that apper on the phone or is this a little more complicated programming that I should leave and accept the Orange signs

Not sure what you mean by "signs". But the de-cert method you are about to try only removes the "application lock". You won't be able to use non-O sim's in it unless you do the battery trick or get it unlocked through Orange.

Sorry about this, but Ive copied the two file to my HDD and altered them, but they wont save, say that it can not create and to check the path and filename

Having a few problems, Im pressing the voice key and power switch to enter the selection screen, keep the two keys depress then I press the centre key as instructed, but it just goes on to the 3 colour screen

You need to press and hold the action button as soon as you see the screen. This tips can be found in other threads (try the global ones) or from a search.

I will have a serch but Ive tried pressing it as soon as the screen come on, but as soon as the action key is press it goes straight on to the three colour canary screen

What may not be clear is that you have to take your fingers off of the power and record buttons. If you keep pressing them then it doesn't matter how long you press the Action key for, you will always go to the Canary screen.

As sson as the phone responds following holding the power and record buttons, take your fingers off of them. Wait until the dialog appears and press and hold the Action key.

So this is another thread that's been hijacked into a phone unlocking tutorial?

Posted

Yep, but its not so much a tutorial, its a problem.....that ok!!!

Ive tried taking my fingers off the power and voice buttons , but as soon as I do that it goes straight to the canary screen

Sorry if this is all repeats, Ive done a search and I keep trying, but nothing yet.

If your pi$%ed off with answer, then dont answer, Im only after some help, not people stressin at me

Ok, sorted it, will now continue the proccess.....probably with more questions.

Cheers to all that just helped with out moanig (maybe I can do something to pay back, maybe lazer cut you a new front facia!!!!)

for future reference if anyone is having the same trouble as me at the start, you have to just hold the power and voice botton for a sec, let go, nothing will seem to happen for a split second but then it will turn on, at which point you press and hold the action key
