Moto G (1st edition) issue with security screen lock

I would appreciate some help with the following please:

I have set up a pin screen lock on my moto g. Although I have it set for automatic lock the screen lock asking for the pin is not working. It worked once, when I'd first set it up but not since.

Phone is on lollipop but I have never used phone security before.

Security settings are:

Screen lock is pin

15 seconds automatically lock

Power button lock is set to on

No smart lock options used

From screen off I press "on" button and just swipe up. So no request for pin

So at the moment I have a pin security and it does not work, therefore phone is not secure.

Now fixed.
