Does anyone know if the Hudl 2's that are bought new on Tesco Direct are running the latest firmware i.e. non rootable, or if their running a rootable firmware of the past?

They are all rootable though the latest firmware uses a different system, at this point in time. (see the rooting thread)

So wait, you can root the latest firmware? I thought you couldn't?

I rooted mine last night

What firmware number are you using? What does it say in the settings on the tablet? And can you link to the guide you are using?

Thanks!

is this the method you used to root it, or did you do something different:

From "this" in post 4 download the tool and the su update zip to a windows computer.
Download the new launcher in post 30.
Unzip the tool and replace the launcher, copy the su update zip to your hudl.
Ensure drivers for adb and droid boot are installed as per this thread. Enable USB debuging from developer settings on the hudl.
Start the tool and type T3 when asked for options, the hudl should reboot to the new recovery.
Navigate this to install zip from SD card, chose the su update zip copied earlier.
Reboot

I used a rooting method from the thread: http://www.modaco.com/forums/topic/373642-how-to-root-your-hudl-2/ and it worked fantastic. After a while the new lollipop update came out; but I couldn't install it due to a status 1 fail of some sort. So I removed Xposed framework and uninstalled all the modules; no luck. I then unrooted it using Supersu; but still the same error. So I tried to wipe the cache, and nothing. Even after 4 factory data resets it still says there is a status 1 error. I can no longer use the tab as I cannot get past the update before you continue menu... If there is any solutions; then please, please tell me, I need to use this tablet for Sixth Form :/

You're betting your education on a budget tablet that you hack and mod? This is the only device you can access the internet on? oO

Can you give a direct link to the method used to root?

Can you give a direct link to the method used to root?

If you're now running lollipop that method doesn't work any longer.

I have a nasty feeling that it is the forced Encryption that is stopping the tethered root method.

I can find no way to disable this and we may even need the encryption key!

It's not that I can't root it, I cannot install the update; therefore I cannot use it... I hope any one can link me to a download link to the stock firmware, or a method to fix this, as it is bugging me :/
