Guest Bazz Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Credit where credit's due, Orange have done a pretty damn good job of the SPV portal: http://spv.orange-today.co.uk Cinema, TV, football and rugby results and personalised news - it's brilliant. I even use it from my work PC as the cinema pages give me all films at my local cinemas on one page, rather than searching a million different sites. The London cinema pages are especially good as I click on a film and it shows me where it's showing and what time. Should have a similar setting for your local ciemas. The only minor quibble is that some settings work on a cookie bases (cinemas, football and rugby team) and some on a log on (news). Standardise it would ya! Top job Orange and one no one's mentioned much before. Anyway enough sucking up - on with the bitchin... Barry
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Yes Orange have indeed done a good job. It is very much a content aggregation portal though and they're doing some content and image transcoding of some of the WAP content they fold into it, so I'm not surprised there are some standardisation issues. In fact we think the portal is so good we're using it as a content source for a transcoding proof of concept we're working on here - but that's another story
Guest Firaas Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 I agree. The SPV portal is excellent - it's something they've clearly worked hard on - let's just hope they keep the portal up-to-date for at least the next year...
Guest HelloDave Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Funny that isn't it - the SPV portal, which after April we'll have to pay to access via GPRS is very good and regularly updated, yet the SPV itself, which O can't really make a lot more profit on, is still waiting (hopefully not for long now) for an update!
Guest able Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 erm its just a news feed taken from Ananova, its not rocket science... :)
Guest casper508 Posted February 21, 2003 Report Posted February 21, 2003 Great job indeed! Can't live without those Cricket World Cup updates. Thumbs up to orange. (for once  ) Cas
