ebook issue

Hi folks, I just got myself a Hudl 2 and all good except for book reading and comic reading.

I bought the Hudl specifically for reading ecomics and ebooks. But I've found that when I open an ebook I can't swipe the page, in fact I can't do much of anything unless I press the volume buttons and then it allows me to turn the page etc. but the next page is also frozen until I press the volume button. I can't access the back button or home button either, unless I press the volume button. This is a problem with the Kindle app, Moon+Reader app and another one that I can't remember the name of. The issue is almost the same for my comic reader (ComicRack), it freezes upon opening but pressing the volume button frees up the whole comic.

I spoke to Tesco tech support and they suggested a reset, which I tried but to no avail.

Is this a common bug or am I being a bit of a div and it's a really simple solution.

Just an update. I used the word freeze. May be a bit misleading. It isn't crashing or "not responding", it still auto rotates, it's almost like something is preventing me from turning the page, like an unchecked box (like I said, it may be something embarrassingly simple).

I can't help with other apps, but for the kindle app go to the Settings page and uncheck the 'Use Volume Buttons to Turn Page' option.

This is probably your problem John because I don't recognise the behaviour you describe and I have been using Kindle since I got mine. That option is not on by default in the Kindle app so you must have enabled it by accident? You are swiping to turn, right? (not just touching)

On Moon Reader there are lots of settings available, the default operation appears to be you TAP not swipe.

 

EG Tap screen Top for page Up , Tap screen Bottom for page down. or tap left or tap right.

 

However Swipe also does things .... gentle swipe up of down scrolls page vertically.

 

Cannot find problem on mine.

Cheers folks. The 'Use volume buttons to turn pages' is unchecked. I see the page in front of me but I can't turn the page by swiping or touching. Pressing the volume button just seems to wake it up and let me turn to the next page. I have discovered that I can swipe up from the bottom of the screen or swipe down from the top to bring up a menu and that lets me turn the page but once the new page appears it goes back to 'sleep'. It's a bloody nuisance but thanks for your replies.
