Guest r00tmydevices Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 Thought it would be useful to have a thread discussing all the cool things that can be done on a rooted hudl 2 tablet if like myself you're relatively new to using a rooted Android device. What are your go to root apps? A brief summary of what is good about them in addition to the app name would be helpful. Any other tweaks/tricks/tips on customisation etc? There's a tonne of info available from a web search, bit of a mind field trying to sift through it all though trying to find out the best or most appropriate stuff applicable to a hudl 2 for someone new to both Android and root. Hopefully this will be helpful to lots of other members too? Thanks.
Guest samac Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) First thing I did was rename the boot.ogg sound file to boot.ogg.orig and then created a new empty boot.ogg file. Now on boot up glorious silence. Courtesy of CaptainMidnight It's really easy, you just need to downloand and install file explorer for android from the Google Play store - something like "ES File Explorer". Once installed, run it, in the menu on the left hand side, select "Tools" then scroll down and turn "Root Explorer" to "on" - it may restart the app at this point. In the right hand side, navigate to the folder "/system/media/audio/" and long press on the file "boot.ogg" to select it. Finally in the bottom menu bar, select "rename" and add ".orig" onto the end of the filename i.e. "boot.ogg.orig" - this is so if you want to revert to normal, just remove the extra extention you have added. When you've done the above, rebooting your hudl2 should now result is a silent boot. :ninja: samac Edited July 8, 2015 by samac
Guest DynaMight Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 The main Root app for me is AdAway. Gets rid of all ads in apps and also on websites. Others I generally use are: Greenify - Kills apps so saves battery life StickMount - Useful for mounting USB sticks ES Explorer - Good file manager, works fine without root too. Xposed Installer - This one its own doesnt do anything but some the modules are very good, especially GravityBox (KK) as it essentially allows you to tweak a vast amount of options, more than most custom roms. I also use XInternalSD to allow the SD card to be used for more than just pictures/documents etc Titanium Backup - Backs up all your apps and settings, very useful for restoring everything again.
Guest arnookie Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 (edited) Xposed because with this you can customise just about everything on your hudl 2 or other devices. Best plugins := youtube adaway, advanced power menu, obb on sd (allows you to play large game data ie gameloft games from sd card). external sd card fix. Many more plugins Edited July 8, 2015 by arnookie
Guest Parababble Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 I also use Link2SD. Basically it gives your internal memory more storage by taking a separate partition off your SD card (5gb off a 32gb SD card, 10gig off a 64gig SD card and so on using ext 1-4) and linking all games that were on the internal storage into this partition. Very useful for all games that take huge amount of data! You can also move apps and games onto SD card as usual (normal non ext partition), even the ones you can't move off the app settings. It also freezes apps too (even the Hudl2 update file) Just remember to create a partition on a PC first when formatting an SD card and choose which ext number you want the partition to be. Once ready go to Link2SD and mount your ext partition to your formatted number and reboot.

Care to provide some more detail (file format, block size etc) please on how to do this for a 64GB microSD card plus which software to use on a Windows 7 machine? Thanks.
