Guest PaulOBrien Posted July 29, 2015 Report Posted July 29, 2015 The Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 is now available in the UK in both 4.7" and 5.5" guises, selling at Amazon UK for £159.99 and £199.99 respectively. Stocks appear to be somewhat limited with only a handful of each device left at the time of writing.Although both devices are very similar in appearance and are both impressively thin at under 7.5mm, internally they differ considerably (and the 5.5" is definitely the device to have in our opinion). It uses a Snapdragon 615 as opposed to the 410 in it's smaller sibling, has more RAM, more storage (the 4.7" has a paltry 8GB vs the 16GB of the 5.5") and features an upgraded front facing camera.More details and full specs can be found at the device microsite and head on over to Amazon to buy a device (quick!).We have both devices here in the MoDaCo offices, so if you have any questions... ask away! Spoiler... we're quite fond of the device... View full item
Guest KonstaT Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 With the slight disappointment of Motorola releases (what's up with Moto G's European pricing :o - specs not too hot for that price either) this is a good candidate as my next dev toy. I really like the design - especially the front of the device is everything I'm looking for in a phone. Completely symmetrical, display right in the center (vs. e.g. Nexus 6 where it's much closer to the bottom which rather makes me want to hold it upside down :P), front facing stereo speakers (even 3rd gen Moto G doesn't have stereo speakers anymore), etc.Unfortunately Alcatel hasn't released kernel source code for this device which is required for any serious development. They don't provide any kind of factory images either which could come in handy in case something goes wrong. These are pretty serious show stoppers for me - at least for now.People living outside UK should probably order this from French Amazon where 5.5" version costs 249€ vs £199 (~300€) in the UK.
Guest PaulOBrien Posted August 4, 2015 Report Posted August 4, 2015 That makes it £185 if you use Amazon's currency converter...P
Guest manire Posted August 10, 2015 Report Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) It is dommage that version 4.7 "does not have the same SoC and as much RAM / ROM as version 5.5" For those who always complain about the format 5 "or more, it could have been interesting!Personally the 5.5 "is fine for me, but that's not the case for everyone. ________________________________________________________________________________________________achat galaxy note 5 galaxy note 4 Edited August 25, 2015 by manire
Guest PaulOBrien Posted August 11, 2015 Report Posted August 11, 2015 Yeah, if the 4.7" had the same CPU etc., it would be a great device.P
