Guest Atsushi1 Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 I've been lurking here ever since it got mentioned in another forum. So I was trying to flash a zip in twrp which failed (Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/<zipfilename>.zip( and then when I pressed reboot it got stuck in the boot screen. I can still access twrp so I downloaded the update.zip and put it in my sd to restore the phone. Unfortunately I get the Error flashing zip 'external_sd/2015072214222958.zip in one of my sd card and Error executing updater binary in zip '/external_sd/update.zip. I swiped to factory reset and wipe cache but it didn't do anything. So is there anything I can do?I've read you could do this but don't know if it's safe to do so:1)Advance Wipe > Wipe cache, data, system, dalvik partitions2) Select zip file of stock and flash 3) You will get Error E: Installation Failed ( Don't panic here)4) Go to Reboot menu > Select Reboot to recovery Then it says no OS install but reboot anyway5 ) After rebooting in recovery Flash again the Zip file without wiping any partion. Thanks
Guest KonstaT Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Easiest way is of course to restore a nandroid backup you made in TWRP before you started messing with your device. Always BUBU (back up before update) or you'll buu buu. :PYou could install stock recovery in TWRP and use the stock recovery to install stock update.zip. I'd personally prefer having bootable system when switching recoveries just in case, though. Or you could modify and repack the stock update.zip to make it flashable with TWRP. Guest Atsushi1 Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 will i be able to go back to twrp incase of any problems if i do do that? or am i looking at a bricked device
Guest KonstaT Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 No way back to TWRP without bootable and rooted system.
Guest Lukas4477 Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 I'd do as konstat says, I'd repack the update.zip so its flashable with twrp. No way back to TWRP without bootable and rooted system.how would you modify and repack it?
Guest KonstaT Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) how would you modify and repack it?I'd remove device asserts from updater-script and remove bootloader/modem partitions so that only system and boot.img are flashed (plus made sure it doesn't format /data). Maybe it also needs to be packed inside CM zip if there's issues with update-binary. Edited August 12, 2015 by KonstaT
Guest Atsushi1 Posted August 12, 2015 Report Posted August 12, 2015 (edited) Thank you very much KonstaT. I was able to go back to stock. Do you use the BUBU method always (even between root or changing recoveries or changing host files). Just if anyone wanted to know I tried to flash this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/themes-apps/theme-t2939926) a material dark theme for lolipop. Now time to root again Edited August 12, 2015 by Atsushi1
