Install "Google keyboard"; built in keyboard is no good

Ever since I've had my Android devices on Lollipop, I've always made a habit of installing the latest native Google apps. Now a word of caution; the SU6 default keyboard looks IDENTICAL to "Google keyboard", but it isn't the same one AT ALL. It's riddled with annoying quirks, doesn't have gesture typing and has more bugs than the Amazon jungle.

When you tap a misspelt word to correct it on the default "Android keyboard", instead of correcting the word the cursor has landed on, it INSERTS THE CORRECT WORD INBETWEEN THE LETTERS OF THE MISSPELT WORD. For example, if I'd typed "alphbte" instead of "alphabet", tapped the erroneous word and tapped the suggested, correct spelling of the word, and the cursor was between "h" and "b", instead of replacing the misspelt word with the correct one, it would LEAVE the incorrect word in place, and INSERT the correct word BETWEEN THE TWO LETTERS EITHER SIDE OF WHERE THE CURSOR IS.

What a ridiculous bug, and a VERY AGGRAVATING one.

May I make the humblest suggestion of you installing "Google keyboard" from the play store, and dumping this appalling rubbish that comes out of the box?

Thanks.

Install SwiftKey. Tweak vibrate, enable emoji prediction, choose a nice theme. Job done.

Google keyboard does everything Swiftkey does (apart from emoji prediction; my Lumia does that too, perfectly, I think a lot could be learnt from the Lumia experience with its simplicity and elegance). Anyhoo, maybe I'll try it :)

{Update}: Emoji prediction for Google keyboard.

Im not sure it works as well,  I had Google keyboard installed,  then switched to Swiftkey and it just seems to be better at guessing my words.  Does Google keyboard link up to Facebook, twitter, evernote etc now,  and does it have the current trending keywords feature as if it does I might give the native keyboard another go (on my wifes phone!)

I noticed straight away the Asop keyboard was not the Google keyboard when I wasn't able to enable swipe. Installed Google keyboard and deleted the Asop keyboard straightaway.

Didn't know about the Emoji for English words dictionary so just went to sort that out and there is no Emoji dictionary to install and it currently doesn't suggest Emoji. Any suggestions to resolve?

While we're on the topic of keyboards, I noticed the odd behaviour with spelling autocorrect, but (wrongly) assumed it was a MoDaCo forum idiosyncracy...(!)

Anyhow, tried to get the CyanogenMod keyboard working (just renamed LatinIME.bak and pasted using ES Explorer) but ended up with just the Google Voice input... Did the direct permissions but alas. Restored my backup, but would love to get it working. Any ideas?
