Expanded Desktop / Immersive mode..

Any way to enable Expanded Desktop or Immersive mode without Xposed. I took it off because it made the phone laggy as hell. I've enabled on screen softkeys by editing the build.prop but want them and the notification bar to fade I'm and out like in CM Expanded Desktop mode or Lollipop native immersive mode.

GMD app doesn't work, nor does full!screen. With GMD, I end up with the bars fading in and out but they leave a strip of black screen behind that cannot be utilised. With full!screen, I end up with a blank screen and have to reboot and delete the app before it activates.

Any ideas?

Also, which keyboard layout file do I need to edit to disable the capacitive keys completely?
