additional language support

Here is the interesting situation I'm in.

I bought this phone to give to my parents as gift. They are not going to be using a Vodafone SIM, so I unlocked it.

I also upgraded it to VDF-995NB01-UK_MR01d

Since my parent's native language is Portuguese, I then went to language settings.. Guess what. Only a few languages are supported, not Portuguese.

What are my options at this point? Not sure why not all languages appear there. Any ideas?

There are a couple of apps in Play store that are supposed to enable languages, but I doubt they'll work.

What if I flash the stock portuguese rom? Would that be an option? Is it even possible or will it mess things up?

I can't because I don't have a device. I've checked the framework of SU6 stock ROM and there's translations for ~60 locales (including Polish) as I said above. You can either add Polish (pl_PL) to /system/etc/language.xml or remove the file all together which should unlock all locales. Make a nandroid backup in TWRP before messing with your system. There's no harm in trying.

Well done. Only took three months for someone to try. :P

Wish they had a language for English (Ireland). It's super minor, but if you use the Engligh (UK) language, then swiftkey has the £ symbol on the X key, whereas if it's English (Ireland) it's the € symbol. I need the € much more than the £...

Oh actually, this worked for me (was able to set language as English (Ireland). Thanks!

Settings>Language & Input>Android Keyboard>Languages, uncheck 'Use system language'
